Quite a few threads about the promotion of horse racing on both sides of the pond, and i want to add another. Nascar racing is the biggest sport in North America while racing is slipping big time. The racing industry should take note of how Nascar, NFL promote their sports.Tv adds are short to the point about the super stars, great teams, etc and after about 20seconds your thinking to yourself i should buy a ticket and go to the race. This is what horseracing lacks good advertising about the greats of today, and the past, and the thrill of winning. The nascar web site is full of everybit of information you need, within 10 mins of browsing a visitor wood know some of the best champions of the past and present, best races, drivers duels, all stats that you could want, free video, just like the NFL site, and its all FREE. Now lets look at racing, the major sites NTRA, DRFetc, do not give you hardly any info about past champs or great jockeys of past and present or info on trainers. If a person wants form info, pps, breeding inquiries, or info about jockeys, you have to PAY for it,by subscription or if you want to watch racing replays you have to open an account with a betting company and pay a membership or pay horse racing tv. Why does the racing industry feel that people interested in horse racing are willing to pay for every little bit of info. Its like the Racing Post most of the rubbish they put up a person can read before hand and they charge for so called special services. So the point of this vent is Racing Associations of the world take a look at NASCAR, and give your supporters what they want FREE INFORMATION and a dedicated site that a person can go to, to find what he ever he wants about horse racing from history to todays info. The horse racing industry has to promote the sport to people to make them think "i should buy a ticket and go."
Sorry never seen the Nascar, it clashes with the world paint drying championships! Ye I do agree though that the Racibg Post website shouldn't charge you, but ATR and Sportinglife let you watch replays of all the horse racing in the UZ and Ireland
Difficult to compare as the number of races aren't comparable. What do you think of this? http://www.france-galop.com/France-Galop-courses-hippiqu.1 M52087573ab0.0.html
Ron i have had Gallop booked marked for quite a while now, i enjoy it. I use one turf for french info also,Drf, bloodsport, thorough bred times for the US and Woodbine entertainement for thorough breds and Canadian standard bred for pacers+trotters in Canada. Big Pond in Australia and a couple more that cyc put me onto Basically i was vented more towards the American side of things, but i still think Europe and else where can improve.
Sorry Shergy, but I'm a huge Nascar fan. What other motor sport can you find, that has three lines of a dozen cars, all travelling up around the 200mph mark, bumper to bumper. Some cars actually pushing each other along. F**king amazing.
Cyc yes its definately entertaining, i don't watch every race but quite a few. Next year brings out new car models for all, and i'm on the understanding that ford are bringing out a Mustang to race i will let you know more later. And yes they do actually push each other, especially on the big ovals,
Sorry Islanderpei....I was only having a laugh about the paint drying. Motor sports aren't realy my thing. I like most sports though, Horse racing being number 1 ofcourse, then Golf and football. Its all personal preference I suppose, I hate Cricket more than any other, that realy is paint drying, they just play the same team over and over again....BORING! Why don't they just play one game against one team then move on to the next team, it's like theyre trying to save on air miles. And the games are meanigless, it's not like a league system or a tournament, were one team moves onto the next round , its just national pride. So I'd rather watch motor sports to that
I have to admit I'm not a motor sports person either but my son and wife are. My son watched the Melbourne? Grand Prix whilst he was in Australia for the best part of a year. I just see a few cars whizzing round going eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeooooooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwww, then another one. Then I see it says something like they do this another 37 times. Then there's the commentator having to shout over the noise. Not for me I'm afraid. However, the other day I went into the "Grand Prix Room" and my wife says "Button was last and he's now up to 6th (or something), he's gone 5th." I thought "Hello, this sounds exciting", at which point he moved into 4th doing faster and faster laps. I sat down. Another fast lap, he's third, he's second. **** me, this is really exciting; can he win? From the relative lap times and number of laps to go, I thought "it's just about possible". In fact I didn't think it; I was shouting it and cheering him on by now. Come on Button. Then the commentator mentioned something about he might have to stop, which confused me no end. But not to worry, he hasn't got to stop now; he can keep going. Phew. Come on Button, he's closing, he's getting there. ****ing hell, he's done it. Absolutely brilliant. I really enjoyed that. I'm not converted though. I doubt there'll ever be another race like that.
No, I shouldn't compare Nascar to the World Paint Drying Championships. It's more like the Magic Roundabout- with Brian and Florence driving- and Zebedee as a marshal!
