I'd say Liverpool v Everton. If SAFC were a bigger club i'd probably say the Tyne-Wear derby but their relatively small size takes some of the lustre off things. Tick tick tick.
Most pathetic rivalry has to be the fabricated chelsea liverpool one. Desperate to be noticed, chelsea tried to make a big deal out of the games in the early roman days. Chelsea real rivalries are with football league clubs. Those closer to their real stature in the game.
As a Liverpool fan- have to agree with you. Yeah... we hate Mourinho. Yes, he's back. Chelsea aren't our rivals though... sure... occasionally we're fighting for the same positions- but we're not really rivals. Chelsea just WANT to be our rivals. Same with Spurs. Why TF do Spurs think they're our rivals? Liverpool's rivals are Manc U and Everton.
err....we dont? Not in the sense meant here. We are fighting for the same place in the table, but there is nothing special about our games. Arsenal is the game we want to win. Chelsea too....but mostly Arsenal.
It's mental, I can explain later but in summary it goes way beyond sport and way beyond any other thing like religion as with Celtic/Rangers. Both cities have always have had a hatred which is linked to being tribal in nature, we'll never like each other as a population.
Rep! (If I could!). Way too much Liverpool stuff on the TH and Chelsea threads for no real reason. Why? Who knows? They sure don't. Apparently.
This, although a lot of your fans see it as more than that even if you don't. There's usually a couple of Liverpool threads on the spurs board. Back when we had a wummery problem on this board- it was usually Spurs fans- moreso than United or Everton. A subset of your fans have been trying to big up a Liverpool vs Spurs rivalry the last 4 or so years. The "Mouser" thread on your board has more posts than your club's "pub" thread- and you have no such thread for any other individual team. I don't mind Spurs... and sure, you're a "rival" for position- but not a historical rival for any other reason- just confuses me that so many Spurs fans seem to think Liverpool and Spurs are team rivals.
