Announced on Twitter that Lambert has now signed a new three year deal. Thoughts? Although I think he'll struggle in the championship, he can score goals and it also puts to bed the pointless rumours people make up about him leaving. Now some new signings please saints..
Good news, if he's got any sense he'd have started preparing for preseason a little earlier than the rest, this is his chance to shine in a higher league for the first time in his carear. Looking forward to seeing how he gets on!
Good news. Reward for his part in getting us promoted. Ricky will do well in the Championship and deserves his chance.
Rickie will probably get at least 10 goals from Pens and Freekicks anyway. Becchio got 19 goals for Leeds last season. So doesn't seem to be too much difference for the best league 1 scorers doing well in the Championship. I'm sure there are other examples too.
Hmmm, more people interested in posting on the Chamberlain gossip thread than this actual real good news thread. Think that sums up why the newspapers, radio, tv, internet etc etc all know that gossip attracts more attention than real news.
have always thought the exact same thing - Rickie is better than him so as our team and supply gets better, the more chances he will have. plus i think l1 teams were too aware of him last year and doubled up on him after his goals the year before, doubt NPC teams will adopt the same strategy = more chance for him to shine. as someone else said though - it is critical he comes back properly fit this year as he cant afford half a season to get going this year.
Lambert always was more than just a goal scorer, his strength on the ball in and around the box and his ability to set up other players will still be invaluable in the championship, although I don't expect him to score a hatful he's still a major part of our squad and the new deal is good news.
Think he will cope very well! Gets off the mark early and he will score bucket loads, good but of business I would say! 'he stands just over 6"3 Ricky.....'
Lambert has been been the focal point of our attack for the last two seasons, Pardew knew how valuable he is to the team and Adkins does too. He has never been dropped from the first team since he has been a Saints player, he has only missed the occasional game through injury, in fact he played through injury at the start of last season. I know that he will always be judged by the amount of goals he scores, but his link up play and heading ability shouldn't be overlooked. I'm very happy that he is staying for our push towards the Premier League.
Well said Lambden, peeps are very quick to point out that we are slow to do anything, well getting Rickie tied to a long term contract is music to my ears, he will shine in the NPC, no doubts.
