He's been doing ok, he's suffering at the hands of the whole team's indifferent form, but he's doing really well and has cemented his place as first choice. I agree that Jakupovic should be second choice, I'm not really sure why we offered Harper the extra year, it must've been an appearance based trigger clause, because I'd have brought in another goalkeeper in the Summer and let Harper move into coaching. The fact that we brought him out of retirement suggests we weren't really that bothered about the position, but then we had Oxley and Jakupovic on our books so I'm not sure what the craic is there.
Yer. He triggered a year extension because of appearances. Because of McGregor's injury, sending off and the cup run.
People are starting to question our defence and what is going on, I think we make a few mistakes at the back but no more than least season! I think the answer with the amount of goals we are conceding is because of McGregor, I am not saying he's to blame for every goal but it seems like lately every shot on target is going to go in, I'm no saying Harper is any better either! .....but you have to admit that every shot on goal looks as though it will go in, I think the post made more saves than McGregor yesterday! I used to think when our defence was beaten it was ok because we had a decent goalie, now I panic whenever our defence is beaten!Maybe this is why our defence is abit off, because McGregor is so poor, he's not commanding his area and perhaps the defence feel under pressure to make the tackle, otherwise it s a goal!......i'm not saying he's the sole problem, but you have to admit he has had some bad games recently!....I would maybe put Jakupovic in for 1 or 2 games and then slot McGregor in, if still no change! If things continue I think a new GK may be needed in January! I know alot of people speak highly of him but you have to admit that up against other PL goalkeepers (begovic, schmeichel, speroni) he doesn't come close at the moment!
He dives to the left, he dives to the riiiggghhhtt, Allan McGregor, he's got a bit ****e... He's our best keeper and he's not going to be dropped.
Well, obviously. When a player gets through 1 on 1 the odds on him scoring are enourmous, there isn't really much the keeper can do except try and make himself as big as possible. This is unbelieveable, so the reason our defence are so poor is because of McGregor? Obviously the defence have to make the tackle, but they're Premier League defenders, they shouldn't need telling EVERY time they need to do something. He isn't having that many bad games; Jakupovic against Sheffield Wednesday was an example of a poor goalkeeping performance. Letting a goal in isn't really a sign of a keeper having a poor game. I know the contrary would suggest a good game, but are you really telling me that us conceding 6 goals in 2 home league games is McGregors fault? Would changing the keeper have had a profound effect on those results? I don't give two ****s about other team's goalkeepers, it's how ours perform that's important. Mcgregor is suffering a slight dip in form, but it's nothing to be alarmed about and certainly not worth all these daft threads about dropping him or "addressing the goalkeeping situation". Also interesting to note that the same people calling for McGregor to be dropped are the same ones who weren't willing to give Jakupovic another chance after his one **** game.
Yes it is. We know he's not playing well. He knows he's not playing well. His kicking went to **** yesterday. He looks arsey with himself. We can offer no input to help him, but its fair to talk about on the board thats why we're on here.
McGregor is suffering a temporary loss of form,he will be back as good as ever.Loss of form is temporary class is permanent and Big Mac is a class act IMO. I can't believe anyone would seriously consider dropping Allan to bring in Harper or the Yak.
I'm not debating people's right to come on here and discuss topics, people are free to say what they want. But suggestions that we should drop our best goalkeeper for one that's nowhere near as good is simply ludicrous. The team is underperforming as a whole; yes there have been a couple of goalkeeping errors but they've not been the reason we've not won games, the teams performance as a whole hasn't been good enough. It could be down to a change in formation or that some of the new signings haven't settled in as well. But frustration at not winning shouldn't be levelled at one member of the squad, particularly one who contributes so much to the team.
McGregor has been conceding way too many goals and his performances as of late are as bad as Jakupovic or maybe worse! some of his kicks yesterday were awful! and he doesn't look very confident in net either, he got beat at his near post in the newcastle game and even he knew that! I don't understand why people are defending him, he has been consistently bad! even in the aston villa game he stood behind the defender, he should either be moving or shouting at his defender to move! I'm no GK expert but some of his displays recently have been very poor! ....why would there be a thread on it, if i wasn't true! You just have to accept that he isn't good enough, people aren't saying Jakupovic is a better keeper but maybe he won't make as many mistakes! I understand what you mean, that we may not have a better keeper, but Jakupovic should get a shot! I'm getting sick of McGregor's poor form and he's costing us! based on yesterdays game! for the third goal, I believe most GK's would of got to it but McGregor's reactions were too slow and his postioning should of been better! for the 4th goal he came out of his net! I'm not actully sure what he was doing to be honest, but was caught in no mans land!
Jakupovic is nowhere near as good as McGregor and Bruce knows it, he's not even our No.2, there's no way he's going to replace him. People are welcome to discuss anything they like on here, but it will change nothing, McGregor will remain our No.1.
Well we might get relegated! EVERY shot on target yesterday went in! you simply can't afford this! I thought the defenders did their job in terms of tackling and keeping possession yesterday! McGregor simply did not do his job, every shot on goal, wasn't saved. that isn't good enough! Look at when Joe Hart took a dip in form, Hart is Man City's No1...but he as replaced last season! I'm not comparing Jakupovic with Pantallimon...but Man City are looking to win the league, then you can't say Pantallimon is chmpionship quality! sometimes it has to be done, maybe for McGregor's own good aswell!
People don't seem to understand is if you're replacing a player he has to be better then the player being replaced. Jak and Harper aren't as good as a slightly out of form McGregor.
This is the case, also the change of formation has ****ed us around a bit, too many midfielders in the squad that were signed to return to 3 at the back, Dawson's big money means he has to play, for me he was the wrong signing, yes he's a great player but his pace has cost us in a couple of games, Chester is a better defender IMO, SB is kind of stuck trying to fit too many new & big signings into the team, further forward isn't really a problem, but defensively & midfield is a nightmare. When we signed Diame I thought he was going to be the holding midfielder which would allow Hudds to get forward more & dictate play, having Hudds as the defensive midfielder is not working due to his lack of pace, which seems to be the problem at the back at the moment. Zaha next week could cause us problems, hopefully SB sees how some teams control a pace player & don't let him control us.
Agree Jakupovic should be our number 2 keeper as Harper cost us many goals at the end of last season with his slowing pace however McGregor should not and will not be dropped as neither are anywhere near the standard of him.
Are you pricks really looking at the percentage of shots that went in as a gauge of a goalkeeper's ability? How about you watch the game and look at which of their goals he - or any keeper - should be expected to save. The third was the only one that was even close to being possible to save. It is a very regular occurrence in football, the keeper has to cover the near post so the striker rolls it across just inside the post. He wasn't at fault for any of the goals and if you think Jakupovic or Harper are better options then you are seriously clueless.
