Without spoiling I have to say that the tension in the last scene was excellent. The last series really built up to that one scene perfectly. One of the best end of series endings I have ever seen.

I've just started to watch PEAKY BLINDERS and I think that's easily on par with The Sopranos.

NOTHING is on par with The Sopranos. Best show ever. With regard to the ending, I liked it. I think people always want the easy way out but I have no complaints. The beauty of it is to leave it open to interpretation. Not everything has to be black and white - no pun intended! ;). If you like the Sopranos I recommend Boardwalk Empire; another great HBO show. People complain about it being too slow for their liking but I've been hooked from the start.

It was reallly bloody tense, and yeah I loved how they laid the groundwork for it throughout the final series (and that's just the things I'm aware of and picked up on.)

I rewatched last year, first time since it was aired originally..and it was strange how I'd convinced myself that you see meadow entering the diner, when no such shot exists. I'm guessing this is to do with how the tension was built and with tony keeping an eye on the door.

Only recently heard of peaky blinders.

This is what I was saying to the people I was talking to about it, they were pissed off that everything wasn't wrapped up and that you had to 'guess' your own ending..my point was that even on a series such as say..breaking bad..that seems to show you the fates of the characters, none of that is set in stone so you are still guessing, to a degree. The sopranos robs you of everything, but the groundwork was laid for it subtly and tbh sometimes not so subtly.

The only series that I've seen that I have on the sopranos level is the wire, everything else is trying to get on that level. I've got boardwalk here to start watching but apparently there's some complaints about the last series being rushed? Gonna start it regardless, will report back lol.

You should def give Oz a go mate, an early HBO pioneer. The first 4 seasons (season 4 is actually split into two parts) are amazing. The last two seasons are alright but don't have the brilliant story and script of previous years.

It's a tragedy what they've done with the last season of Boardwalk. The awful Kelly McDonald aside, the first four seasons were fantastic (some parts of the third dragged - Bobby Cannavale saved it - but the fourth got it right back on track). But then they decide to skip 7 years (including the deaths of major characters and significant events in the crime world) and give us a half-arsed 8 episode final season. I loved the show so much I won't bring myself ot watch it. HBO really piss me off with their tendency to stop great shows in their prime (Deadwood, Rome, and Carnivale being previous examples).

I wish I had the willpower like you do but I'm still just too curious to see how it plays out. But yeah when I heard 8 episodes I was gutted. The show is too classy to be rushed but I'm guessing this is a decision from HBO. Unfortunately for Boardwalk, GOT has come along and blown it out of the water in terms of viewers.

Oz, yeah bloody hell, I have a mate who is a huge fan and has pestered me to watch it but it keeps falling behind other, more recent , series. I really don't like the sound of Boardwalk skipping years..and character deaths, I couldn't see that working even if they had a logical plan for it. And yeah I try to just wait for a series to almost end before I watch because of them being stopped (I know carnivale fans were pisssssed off) but I also thought deadwood had finished, I realise now why I never see it mentioned as having a great finale or last series. Seems a massive shame as its usually spoken of very highly.

Cheers, I'll be tempted to watch oz before Boardwalk now, it's about time. Also I cant remember if I've told you but I watched big bad wolves, really good, pitch perfect black humour and overall just really entertaining, great shout.

It was great wasn't it mate? I think some people might be put off but the subject matter but I thought it was a fantastic black comedy.

Def give Oz a go. I honestly believe in its first four seasons it can go up against anything entertainment wise.

Aye man real class, kept me guessing and then when it moved into the
basement scenes, and with his old man turning up etc
It really threw me with its use of humour along with the mystery and tension. Love when a film goes somewhere you don't really expect.

DL oz now, look forward to it

Edit: eh ,not sure what's up with the spoiler tags, they're only minor points anyway

I am actually half way through it at the moment, I like the show a lot, but I'm very critical of the over use of Tony's kids. Meadow's mid series temper tantrums is just so bloody frustrating.

I however adore other characters, Junior, Bobby, Tony himself, and the multitude of supporting characters. So many are brilliant. What makes the show, is that they're all villians, it's very rare that every character is a villian, even the FBI are villians. They use underhanded tricks just like the Mafia do.

It is a brilliant show, but I just hope both Meadow and the son at some point have a minor horrific car accident.

The Sopranos was a great series. One of the best. My only criticism was it felt like the writing team was in some way self-indulgent, for example writing far too much about the psychology stuff (esp. the bit in hospital), and the ending is a perfect example of this, leaving everyone like, huh? Trying to be too clever when I think they should have just stuck to the mobster formula more as that's what most people liked the show for, although I do get that is meant to be the mafia in modern times (balancing a life of old school crime while trying to deal with modern family issues, etc). BUT..... like I say, overall it was an awesome show, and I will be watching it again at some point.
