I've just read it and a lad in Chelmsford wrote this:

"So sad that a sports writer of some repute is totally against sustainable, well run clubs and continuously advocates getting yourself a sugar daddy and throwing money at it"

Excellent response and one no doubt Mr Samuel will choose to ignore.

I want to laugh after all we went through, but I feel for Luke because he is so young (even younger than his true age). He has been ill advised. His agent got him a great deal, but a good agent also cares about his client's long term future. United wasn't the team for him at this time...he was at the best team for him, surrounded by talented players, his friends, and fans who would show patience. He could have got a great move next summer or the summer after. He has to steer clear of the high life, work as hard as he can, and wait for his chance...Rojo isn't being exactly sensational.

I had a thought yesterday on this subject. I meant to post about it, but forgot to, and spent some of yesterday evening with the nagging feeling that I'd missed something. It's this: The table shows that the normally underdog teams are fighting back. Not just one or two, but a raft of them. Only Chelsea seem that head and shoulders clear. I wondered about this and I think it's the new TV money which has helped create this situation. There is a law of diminishing returns. Once you get to a certain level of quality, the next level is extraordinarily expensive. Even a slight rise on that next level is almost too expensive for anyone bar the richest. But the TV money has meant that most PL football clubs can tap into a level of player who is, bar one consistent quality level, almost as good as it gets. They are certainly good enough to be consistent match winners and creators. When those players arrive they pull the whole squad up. Yes, they need to be well chosen - you can't just throw money away indiscriminantly, like Liverpool and ManU have to a certain extent, but if teams like West Ham and Saints are bringing in very high quality players, then the Man City's, Utd's, etc... of the world have to practically break their own banks just to stay that little bit ahead. In ManU's case, they've undoubtedly panicked. The same could be said of Liverpool.
I think normal service will eventually resume, but in the shuffle one or two smaller teams may make a permanent jump across the quality gap.

As I said, just a thought. Probably badly explained as well. :)

Nor apparently do the United fans on many of the forums (sorry, my guilty pleasure) despite not having played for them yet!

They claim he's too young to come in yet. £31 million? Other defenders playing like statues?

Best (or saddest) comments are that refs have always had a grudge against them and decisions always go against them, since they entered Europe against FA wishes in 1956 !!!!

    In what bloody world?

May have something there. The money pouring in to the PL means most teams can buy good players...the top teams can't hoover them all up. The coaching and fitness levels have also been raised, so the difference between the sides is reduced.

I don't like seeing him sad either...after all he still feels like our little boy. He has that massive price tag round his neck...a stupid amount to pay for a talented but still inexperienced player. The 16 million paid for Chambers was much nearer the mark and Arsenal got a lad with a brain for that. Luke has a massive future...let's hope he turns it round (just not for Utd).

Did they claim Januzaj was too young, or Rooney when he joined from Everton. I think not.

Easy to have a wry smile when you hear that Luke Shaw appears to be struggling at United, I personally think its a bit sad that money and the bright lights appear to have turned his head?
If half the stories I've heard and read about his excessive personal demands are true then he has sold out to the highest bidder with little regard for his future career?
He needs to quickly get back on track and let his performances on the park do the talking, or he may just find himself loaned out to somewhere he doesn't want to be, you know the old saying - One day your a big shot, next day you are a big s**t?

I foresaw this. He was high maintenance behind the scenes here, needing to be pushed to keep healthy, eat right and train well. You could see this in his injury/sickness record too. Unless you are a Bale or Ronaldo, big clubs ain't got time for that. We'll see if someone can smarten him up.

Dealing with ifs and buts, but I believe that if Shaw had been playing instead of Rojas (or Rojas was playing CB) then Utd would not have thrown away a 2 goal lead. Shaw would not have been by pace kike the Utd defence were, and unless he has changed his style of defending (like Chambers seems to have done) he would not have thrown himself into a tackle and commited a penalty.
He is basically a cert this weekend to start his Utd career, with Rojas playing CB.

Unless he puts Blind in at LB.

Then the midfield would really be shyte. But if he plays Blind at LB then it will be obvious the manager really does not rate him
