I was watching the back four against the hammers and you could see Dawson gesturing for them to form a line high up the pitch. Elmo was hanging a few yards back and ****ing it up, but that's besides the point.

Davies kinda got on board with it, making the same arms out and form this line gesture, but he didn't look comfortable with it.

Too many chiefs it seems back there.

Ye D n D also both clattered into each other against West Ham going for the same ball in the air.

I'm quite happy playing players that have shown how good they are and haven't even really played that badly so far this season , what games have you been watching ?

Only been to 4 this season so maybe my opinion is flawed. I work most weekends.

Saying that I have never rated Quinn and think when you have genuine quality on the bench( Chester, Ramirez, Benny, Brady , Rosenior) then when first teamers lose form you bring that quality into the starting 11.

Dawson looks better than I expected. He's got the heroic blocks of Bruce, the coolness in possession and excellent positioning Chester and Davies' athleticism and aerial prowess. I didn't really expect all of that, had it in my head he was a bit slow and limited in possession.

Diame too, I had no idea he was so good in possession, but the key thing is he's a monster at winning and holding onto the ball(which I was aware of). Him and Tiote ran the midfields for their respective sides today.

For me it's a no brainer. Chester, Dawson and Davies. How many premier league teams can turn out a better back three than that?

You then release Robbo and Elmo to play to their strengths and we've no end of combinations for the midfield three and front two.

And throwing another one out there. Could there be a case for dropping Huddlestone into a back three to play a 'libero' sweeper role. I'd be cautious trying it out. But just maybe it could be a thing of beauty.

The other big positive I've noticed about Dawson is he can ping an accurate long ball from the back as well rather than the usual big hoof from most centre backs.

I've said much the same in another thread, although I suspect SB's giving Dawson a bit of time to get up to speed with playing in a 3 on the training ground before trying it again in a game. Although last time he tried it, it was McShane rather than Chester as the third CB, so that might have made a difference.

One other thing I've wondered is whether next time Chester isn't available, if Rosie could play in his role as the right sided CB in a 3?

Chester has to play, I don't agree with the comments about Quinn, I think put Quinn in Hudds role and that would improve the team as Hudds is too immobile and Diame is fulfilling his (Hudds) position now in the team. Quinn is not there for 'end product', not one of those players, hes a plugger/terrier type. A bit of a better Marney if you will. Not going to be a fans favourite maybe but a necessary cog. I'd keep Livermore in as he is more mobile. Hudds should be Diames slot-in, back up for me.. Ramirez is the other ace in the hole so we aren't short of options.

i agree that chester could make a difference and should be in the team.

some comments above led me to this:

    assists so far this season:

    quinn 3
    elmo 2

don't know where the other two came from, but if you think it's a good idea to drop a player that's supplied the final pass for 3 of our 7 goals because he isn't up to scratch and produces no end product, well, pardon me for wondering about your credentials. http://www.espnfc.com/club/hull-city/306/squad

Quinn is overrated and undeserved of a starting role. Because he 'tries hard' is not a reason that he should be starting games in the Premier League.

He might be a great man motivator but that is no reason to shoe horn him into the team.

Players like Huddlestone might have dips in form but players like Quinn will never match players quality like this in longevity.

For some reason to me it seems like Quinn is like Bruce trying to prove that he is still willing to give the older players a chance over the newer players. That's all well and good, but not at the detriment of points.

I think the most topical phrases for us right now are - Shoe Horn and Defend a lead.

Huddleston and Livermore are the 2 midfielders always shoehorned into the team, when it would probably be better having just one (as I said quite a while back now). Dawson was shoehorned in as well, though his performance has at least been better than Davies who needs to do better to keep his place.

Chester must feel swindled, he helped us to our win, sacrificed himself after the bad back pass to get us a draw and has hardly been seen since.

Just an observation here, Dawson there is no doubt is a good defender and from the outside and seeing performances, it does appear he is playing well, but we last season anyway came across as well organised and did ok defensively.

Just a thought that since either the formation change with what looks like more of a CB pairing of Davies and Dawson rather than a back three, since Chester has not been in the team at CB we have conceded 6 in the past three games.

Just wondering on peoples thoughts, any link to Chester not playing and us conceding a few more than we would expect ?

It's down to simply playing 2 centre halves rather than 3. We are leaving ourselves too exposed as Elmo and Robertson both attack. We need to get back to 3-5-2 and the sooner the better.

Strangely , I saw James Chester after the Newcastle game , was about 5.30 and he was walking in Newcastle town Centre dragging his suitcase along . It seemed strange as he was walking away from the stadium when you would have thought he would be catching the team bus back home .
    Anyone else see him ?

I'm also finding the comments about Quinn interesting. I personally like him. However the reasons people are giving for dropping him are the same reasons I used to get irate about the inclusions of the Craig ***ans of this world. I beleive Quinny is a good squad player and he started the season well. Not really got the quality to be starting week in week out, but he is premiership SQUAD quality IMO.
I understand peoples frustrations when a players main quality is his workrate (Like I said Craig ***an was a prime example for me), I just think he does have more than workrate to his game, and I would personally like to see him in and around the matchday squad.
