Diame Dawson Jelavic I had to think long and hard about this one. I thought Robertson played well today and don't really blame him for the equaliser, but in a close call it put him just behind Dawson and Jelly. I also thought Elmo and Davies played well.
Wasn't at game and only have Humberside commentary to go by but I would go with Diame, Jelavic and Robertson.
Dawson Jelavic Elmo Interesting the vote on Robertson today. Defensively I thought he was quite poor and was caught both out of position and was beaten on more occasions than he should. There was clearly a strategy for him to play the long bll up front as this happened on numerous occasions and totally bypassed the midfield. More suited to 3-5-2 imo with Rosy in for the 4-4-2
I'm still angry about the way we blew that today. No way should any tan not win from 2 goals up. I've been thinking, is that the first time since burnley came back under Barmby that we've been 2 up and not won? My vote: Diame Jelavic Dawson
Sorry, I meant in the league rather than the Cup, though that's another game where we got a goal (or two), sat too deep and don't win the game, we need to sort it sharp.
Diame Jelavic Dawson We really miss Jelavic when he goes off. Aluko on his own was ridiculous. We deserved what we got with that combined with just playing for free kicks and wasting time. We got a 2-0 lead by playing on the break, then stopped it and just sat back.
The game reminded me of the final tbh. We seemed not to know what to do having gone 2-0 up quite early. We'd almost have been better off waiting another 10 minutes for the second goal.
People having a go at Robertson for not being defensive enough to the end, how do you expect him to keep going for 90 minutes when he's doing the work of a Lw and a LB at the same time? The formation puts ridiculous pressure on him and as I said on the match thread Rosie should have replaced him when he tired
We're playing two players at full back when they're both much better as wing backs and the best full back defensively at the club on either side of the pitch is sitting on the bench. SB admitted after the game that they still hadn't sorted out the best formation to get the best out of the new players that have been brought in alongside those already established as regulars. I suspect at the moment we're trying to fit the system around those players that we've spent the most money on, hence Chester's found himself on the bench, as we've played a 4-4-2 with a diamond midfield. There may be some concern at Dawson's ability to play as part of a 3 at the back at this stage but I suspect they will be working on it during training because I'm sure SB realises we will ship even more goals against the better teams if we play with the 4 at the back that we have for the last couple of games. I'd expect us to go back to a 3-5-2 on Saturday against Citeh: McGregor Chester Dawson Davies Elmo Livermore Thud Diame Robertson Jelavic Hernandez Subs - Harper, Rosie, McShane, Brady, Quinn, Ben Arfa, Ramirez Although if Hernandez isn't considered fit enough to play at least an hour then I wouldn't be surprised to see him on the bench and either HBA or Ramirez in the hole behind Jelly.
Exactly two of our best most consistent defenders sitting on the bench while we throw away points trying to find a system which suits the "big money" signings ... 1jelavic 2 diame 3 Quinn
