Not gonna argue the toss with you Shteve, you make your own luck in any game regardless of the perceived quality of the opposition, can point out Utd's game against MKDons as an example, ok you never had your final three signings of the season at the time that game took place but on paper Utd should have walked it. Tbf our opposition tonight weren't underestimated it was more a case of the press and TV giving us the big build up when in reality we are once again mere novices in the competition.
TBF being worthy of a win against the team you were playing was a given before the game even started. You were expected to put in a convincing performance, yet struggled. Had you won 4-0 we could say, yeh as expected, but not 2-1 with a pen kick in the 95th minute. They're good but they're no QPR They played well, but that was as much down to Liverpool as it was down to them. I think you'll go through, but how much of it is down to having two weaker teams in the group rather than the quality of football from Liverpool or Rodgers, remains to be seen.
So are you really gonna pretend the team Utd put out that night weren't capable of giving MKDons a spanking?
Yeah we all know they should have but MK dons were up for it, its possible it will even happen to Liverpool... Look tonight at Anfield with your strongest team out you should have give them a spanking and yet again get really lucky at the end, ANOTHER PENALTY
The pen was legit and came before the ref blew for the end of the game so what's your problem, the opposition tonight were up forit but weren't good enough when it mattered as was shown, its always possible for us to be beaten by lower league teams in cup games and usually happens even with a full team/squad.
I didn't see the Arsenal game but it sounds like Welbeck put in a very Welbeck like performance: worked hard, got in good positions, spurned chances he should have done better with. Following his transfer and goals for England, some members of the media and Arsenal fans have elevated Welbeck's finishing to Muller levels of precision but the reality is nothing will have changed or is likely change. He's never shown a natural goalscorer's instinct and I doubt he'll discover one as he approaches his mid-20's. I'm sure every goal for club or country will be greeted with claims of him having turned the corner but it will inevitably followed by frustration. I can't see the Arsenal fans cutting Danny the same slack as the United fans did.
From what i saw, and i did watch the simpsons first as simpsons > liverpool, but you didnt deserve to win at all. A draw would have been fair.
The lessons from yesterday: How far have the RS fallen since the departure of the sewer rat! It was more than I had expected. Hopeful long balls, no cutting edge, and making a poor team look good (a sure sign that standards have collapsed. We should know it as we've seen at OT last season) Stevie me: as long as Brenda plays him, the RS will be nowhere near the top 4. His legs have gone, his concentration at the back goes at crucial times and his mistakes yet again could have lost them the game. I hope they prioritise the CL. They won't get anywhere despite scholesy saying they are dark horses (well done S lad - you are taking the mick out of these f**ing RS !). #oneseasonwonder.
matth, you said Welbeck had the potential to be the new Thierry Henry a few months ago but since his move to Arsenal you've given him more stick than Ozil(very unusual), the kid went through the ranks from schoolboy to first team at OT and never asked to leave so why rip the lad to pieces?
I don't know why you expected him to say much matth. People get far too precious about players' comments when they leave these days.
Maybe because he got booted out of the club he supported as a local lad, he was no doubt gutted and he'd hardly endear himself to the goons if he was singing Utd's praises after signing for them. Suppose he could have done a Rio and slated people at Utd but he kept quiet, just find it odd that you've wished all Utd players that have left or been loaned well but singled out Welbeck for terrible stick.
Yet we're above you in the league and you've had a far easier start. you've also been spanked in the League Cup 2nd round by a League 1 Team who only a week previous couldn't beat Coventry City. Which Liverpool Player finished top of the assists league last season? So do I, I love being in it and playing the top teams in Europe... Especially when United are nothing more than bystanders looking on enviously... I hope we make the League Cup a priority too as you'll be bystanders as that competition rolls on too
