I am against capital punishment too...it is inhumane for a state to obtain equipment and organise how to kill another human being...not in my name. I am in favour of proper sentencing...life for the most serious murders should mean life. In the case that started this discussion, his plea of guilty has to get some mitigation as it saved a number of children having to recall events...which is often impossible to bear for even adult women.
I really hope not he's been fantastic. Although I do wish they'd throw a few more gadgets into the next film, the lack of gadgets is my only gripe with the Craig era.
Someone said something interesting recently that whilst many female singers act in a sexy powerful way, Cyrus acts more like a victim as if she has zero self-esteem.
Quite the opposite I'd suggest. I'll put here what I just posted on Facebook - I used to think that Miley Cyrus was the very personification of much that was wrong with the music industry currently - the objectification of a young woman, puppeteered by a group of slavering 50 something year old men sitting round the board room of a major label rubbing their thighs. But I now suspect I was wrong. I actually think that she's driving this, and that in reality she doesn't give a flying **** what you, I, or anybody really thinks. Hence why she's doing lo-fi covers of Led Zeppelin tracks. The label heads must be pulling their hair out - "your target market is 12-18 year olds"...."okay, well I'm doing a messy, strange cover of a track from Led Zeppelin 1 then"..... That's a proper punk attitude. Good on her. So yes. I think I quite like Miley Cyrus. I've said it. You can de-friend me with a clear conscience now.
That's actually heartwarming. Recognises people's right to their opinions. There has been talk of the yes camp being overly aggressive to the point of racism towards people planning to vote no...nice to see the above.
What did he say ? I hope he writes a letter to everyone in Scotland who has a vote on Thursday - English, Welsh, Irish, Poles etc etc. I know people from all over who will be voting - Panamanians, Figians, Kiwis, Malaysians.........

I think your first impression might be the correct one. However, she may have taken on the mantle after being advised that this way was her way of achieving some sort of success/notoriety. The way she was proceeding before she was going to be another Tiffany. Whatever. If her music is good to my ears, I'll listen. If it's not to my liking, I'll switch off. To me she sounds like an awful of other similar modern performers. The formula is visible. All the twerking and crotch grabbing ain't going to make a ha-pence of difference to me. Mind you, I'm not her audience age group, so what does she care. I come from the age group where the music has to be strong enough that one doesn't need the visuals [that's why it's called music], and a significant percentage of it isn't. My gut feeling is that I'd possibly prefer to listen to U2's latest album, so you can see where my priorities are. Although it might be a close run thing. I don't despair about new music in the slightest. There's loads of good stuff out there. I'm occasionally asked about what music there is to listen to. Basically, anything you've never heard before is new music because it is new to you. There are no rules that you have to abide to, only ones you may hem yourself in. Recently I had a friend come over and I was playing some Nick Drake, and it was love at first listen. Then I played some John Martyn and it was the exact opposite reaction. You can't win them all. But let's forget the visuals.
I have contempt for the House of Lords, distrust of successive Westminster governments. I hate having a government we didn`t vote for, I hate being drawn into conflicts we have no business being involved in. I`m Scottish first, British second. But I`ll vote No because I have a loyaly towards the UK also, my father and grandfather fought for the country, and there are unknown consequences - for us all. Cameron and Co have had to make last minute promises of more devolved powers to Scotland - due largely to their complacency and arrogance. Lets see if they keep their promises.
Who is Cyrus Miley? I have never heard of her before!!!! More interested in the big event in Scotland on Thursday. Wish I was Scottish and I would vote "Yes!"
