Sky Sports Graeme Bailey has just tweeted:

"Ashley was up for sacking him all last week, but he thought Pardew would quit - very much a stand off at the moment"

"The fact Alan Pardew won't quit means he is set to be in charge of Newcastle this weekend - Mike Ashley Hoping he will resign"

I think this shows why he's still in a job...Ashley will not give up any of his precious money and Pardew wants a fat honking pay cheque before he leaves. Something tells me this will run and run weather we like it or not

I don't think Ashley would have been so stupid to give him an 8 year contract without having some clause about a maximum pay off if he sacked him. Saying that, if Pardew had one ounce of self respect in him, he'd resign. He's lost the dressing room, the fans, and, the plot.

Certainly smells like the Mike Ashley we love, but come on... I very much doubt Ashley would tell anyone who could leak it to reporters. If you want an employ to resign, you don't make it public knowledge, because the employee won't resign.

There is no doubt the time has come for Pardew to go, and that that time has been with us for a while. Personally I don't see the blame for him still being here as being Pardew's though. This is probably his last big pay day, and he knows that when it's over he is unlikely to be back at a premier league club. If he walks he loses all his compensation. I think most of us would want to do what was best for our family's future above all else.

The responsibility to get rid is Ashley's. He may not like paying compensation - especially since he will be used to just getting rid of under performing staff without any compensation - but that's not how football works. Ashley needs to sack him, pay the compensation and move on. The longer he keeps protecting the thousands that compensation would cost him then the more he is endangering he millions that relegation would cost him.

Bailey tends to be quite reliable so there might be some truth in it. either way it's a massive mess and just futher shows the circus our club must seem to everyone else...for someone who is in the top 50 richest people in Europe he's awful tight with his money...surely as a sensible businessman he can see sacking pardew will make him more money in the long run

I really doubt Ashley would not have put in a early termination clause in the 8!! yr contract.. Ie along the lines of one years money compensation..But who knows. Ashley could have binned him after the headbutt etc etc..and chose not too.

I still think Ashley KNOWS he wont get another lap dog like Pardew ..and IF his chosen lap dog can keep NUFC in the premiership..that is ALL that is important.

this right here is the exact problem
Ashley has pardew under thumb and he doesn't want to have to deal with a keegan all over again who actually has a spine

maybe this is our next manager??

Graeme Bailey knows **** all more than we do. No one does except Mike Ashley and Alan Pardew. These reporters are just latching onto hot topics as they know the fans are hanging on every media outlets breaking news sections.

What will be will be but I'm bracing myself for a good while longer of Pardew. I just think its a difficult role for Mike to fill with the conditions that come with the job. He will be loathe to bullet his human shield too quickly.

Think this is just press bollocks as usual from Sky. They dont know their arse from their elbow at the best of times.
Listen, all we gotta do is just give him dogs abuse at home and away for 90mins, game after game. The press will love it. it will all over the TV, Radio and Papers every day. Nobody can put up with that for long, he will eventually crack or explode or attack another official, manager or player. Every man has his tipping point. Pardew is fast approaching his. So lets keep up the constant abuse from the terraces and in the media. Lets face it, we do all sort of enjoy ripping the t**t to shreds, dont we?:smiley-finger007:

Graeme Bailey seemed to be worth listening to when he had access to Sky sources - he broke the Lascelles, Darlow double signing long before anyone else had a clue. Since he left Sky and joined Goal.com though he's started peddling waffle... What you say now seems to be true.

I'd also be surprised if Pardew were sacked - he's survived countless horrendous results and runs of extremely poor form, as well as several terribly unprofessional moments. Until he reaches a point where MA is convinced that our Premier League status is under threat I think he'll continue to be here to delight us.

I'm not singling out Graeme Bailey or his sources, regardless whether at Sky or Goal.com, I just think nobody is party to the relationship Pardew and Ashley have, or what the terms of his employment are. Finding out about transfers is one thing, there are many others with knowledge of them happening from agents, to selling clubs, to teammates, friends, medical staff etc etc. Finding out the terms of a contract of employment between Mike Ashley and Alan Pardew, plus how likely it is to be ended, I doubt many are party to that info. Indeed only really Ashley knows what the current thinking is, and he is well known to like privacy. He keeps his cards close to his chest until he decides the time is right.

I could be wrong and cynical but this all looks like an easy win for media outlets to speculate on in the current climate. He may stay, he may go, I just don't think the media know and are speculating based on results.

Exactly, as Eric said: "When the seagulls follow the trawler, it's because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea. Thank you very much."

Though I prefer this one: "My best moment? I have a lot of good moments but the one I prefer is when I kicked the hooligan."

Considering the 8 year contract Ashley would have to pay up the contract if he sacked Pardew, this would be in the region of £5 million, to replace Pardew with an active manager like Bruce would probably add £3 million compensation to the bill, the other aspect is that Pardew is cheap to employ as he is apparently only on £800,000 a year which is a pretty low salary for a PL manager. Pardew at the moment shields Ashley from more of the deeper hatred being focused at the club as he is the only visible and vocal figurehead for the club at the moment, I can also understand why Pardew doesn't just walk away he wants to try to turn it around despite all that is chucked at him and in the bitter end when you take all the **** why not make Ashley at least pay you for it.

If Pardew is due a pay off if he's sacked, can't say I blame him for not quitting.

I firmly believe Ashley will have a get out clause in his contract with a maximum payout of £1m or similar. He's not daft.

Pardew deserves only a few quid tossed unceremoniously in his face for the taxi to take him back from whence he came.

What a bottom-feeding, no mark, disgusting, degraded, arse-licking little prag he is. Any respect he ever had (if he ever did) has long been arse pounded out of him and he loves every minute of it.

Amazing to think Ashley earns in about a month what it would cost to pay off the entire coaching staff for 5 years.

    But greed is good apparently.

My next door neighbour's daughter works in WH Smith and she's just told me that Ashley has just bought a calculator (on special offer), so watch this space.
