http://www.itv.com/news/calendar/update/2014-09-15/bruce-appeals-to-hull-city-fans-for-calm/ Let's hope we don't piss him off too much tonight.
Yes, that's called PR, part of the managers job, probably under instruction from the chair. Personally I don't think we'll piss SB off tonight. I believe he'd support us, think he's between a rock n a hard place. If my memory serves me correctly he's declared himself a traditionalist in the past. Traditionally we are Hull City AFC. The guys from the north east, working class, he'll understand struggle, people taking action, people standing up for their beliefs. He'll have seen it first hand. Now I'm not saying this name change nonsense is as important as other things people have had to stand up and fight for, like freedom, jobs, working conditions etc, but it's important to a lot of people. So if it's important to you, fight for it. Sing ,jeer , protest, be heard. Or alternatively if your pro name change continue to sit on your hands n pick your arse
I know Newcastle season ticket holders. I clearly remember when I had a discussion saying I think Souness should be given more time the reply I got was "if we dont get into the Champions League he should be sacked". I have also had conversations where I was told - 100% genuinley - that Newcastle is the 3rd biggest club in the country only behind Man Utd and Arsenal. This person then laughed at me when I reeled of Liverpool, Everton, Spurs, Chelsea, Man City etc because "we get bigger crowds than them". No word of a lie.
Whilst in the Middle East innocent people are being beheaded! Put it all into perspective and just support the team, I'm smuggling my sniper rifle in tonight, and if I see so much as a twitch from some twat unfurling an 'Allam Out' banner...
That's the point though isnt it - they want to support the team, that team being Hull City. They dont want to support Hull Tigers.
I'll support the team as I have done for years. What I won't do is be part of a protest. If you want to protest do it outside of the west stand after the game. We need to get behind the team inside the stadium, not spend half the time sniping at our owner. It helps no one.
Article on OWS quotes SB as saying "We need to stay in this league and improve. My aim is to make sure we stay here for the next few years and improve." Doesn't sound like he's going anywhere in that case
That would depend obviously, there are a lot of variables that could see that situation change, and quickly.
Well back in 2002/03 we were bigger than City and Chelsea. We were constantly in the champions league etc and they were nowhere to be seen. We know that times have changed though and money dictates nearly everything now. We're not asking for titles, Europe, cup wins etc. All we ask is that the players give 100%, that we try and play attacking football with the ball on the ground and for a manager not to dedicate victories to our money conscious owner that renames our stadium and appointed Joe Kinnear. In terms of our footballing aim, it's something above not topping the league for the team scoring in the least percentage of games in all four divisions (65% of our games) in 2014. It's above accepting 18 points from 23 games (relegation form) as satisfactory and it's above scoring from one corner in nearly three years. I'd hardly say they're unreleastic expectations would you?
This conversation didnt take place in 2002. It took place last year. And even if it did, I wouldnt say you were bigger anyway. You havent won a trophy since.....remind me again? In 2002 both of those teams had won more recently than Newcastle had.
It would also depend - massively - on when those quotes were given. Because it appears on the OWS today it doesnt mean they're quotes given today.
Well you mentioned Souness so it was a fair assumption. So until last season were Birmingham City bigger than Arsenal as they'd won a trophy more recently?
Has there been any rumours other than paper talk about this happening? On the face of it, it looks like lazy journalism. But I think it's the kind of thing that could happen. Some say, "Why would he go there, the owner is a loon", as though Allam isn't... I think it would be Moyes' job to turn down first though.
I never said the Souness conversation had anything to do with the 'bigger club' conversation. They were at 2 different periods. No, cos Arsenal have won s**tloads of major trophies in the last 20 years and have consistantly been challenging. You had a few good seasons which were very much the exception. What basis do you use to decide which club is biggest?
BCC - that will get a different answer from each person. In terms of supporters in a city Newcastle may be big (like Leeds) but that is partly down to there only being one club to support in that city, unlike in Manchester/Birmingham/Liverpool where obviously there are 2 major teams fighting for supporters
Arsenal hadn't won anything for 8 years. You're amending your logic because it's been proven incorrect. Fan base gets taken in to account, cup final and semi final appearances, trophies won, muscle in the transfer market, total points won in the history of the premier league etc. For the record I do think we're a big club, probably in the top 10 biggest in the country. Just to point out though that doesn't mean I think we have a devine right to be in the top eight or anything. On the field we're currently a mess but doesn't change the fact that we're a big club. In the championship we still had the third highest average attendance in England. I was just responding to your original point where your claimed all Geordies have unrealistic expectations, which is completely untrue and just something the southern press have brain washed the average football fan with.
Since when have any fans spent 'half the time sniping at the owner' during a match ? Is that never ? OK then
Anyone calling Newcastle fans "fickle" or "deluded" is mental You'd not find another team that would still get such massive crowds despite winning nothing for decades (except probably Sunderland) And the "one-team-city" claim doesn't work, when you look at the actual population catchments of Manchester, Liverpool etc. compared to their teams (City/Utd...or Everton/Pool, etc) support proportionately. Newcastle is a relatively small place. there's always going to be a few idiots who think Newcastle should be in the Champions League etc. but nearly all similar clubs have em - Villa, Everton, Spurs, etc. Most Newcastle fans just want to see some aspiration in the boardroom and effort on the pitch. Not turning over mercenary players for profit, trundling along, negative boring football. -- as for Bruce, I think he'd turn down the job if offered. Everyone can see with Ashley in charge, it's a poisoned chalice.
