Centre backs

Last year we were all shouting the praise for Davies. His leadership and determination had us thinking about a call up to England.

Chester, it seems is now the hero of our defense and you can see why. Add Dawson in the mix with McShane, Figgy and Bruce and we have quite the choice.

So who is first choice? who needs to move on and who is tipped for greater things?

 

Back 3 first choice has to be Davies, Chester and Dawson. Keep McShane and get rid of Bruce Jr and Figgy

 

3 CB's Davies Dawson Chester.

2 CB's Davies and Dawson.

 

If we play a back 3, Chester - Dawson - Davies.

If we play a back 4, which I feel suits us better, it's hard to choose which 2 of those 3 should start.

Bruce is really surplus to requirements now. McShane probably deserves to be next in line/on the bench. Maguire I only see playing Cup games this season and Figueroa is probably making up the numbers as cover for either one of the spots in a back 3 or at left back in a back 4.

 

Thank goodness someone is trying to get us to talk about football again.

 

Based on his World Cup performances Figueroa may be our 4th best CB. Probably won't get tried there to see though.

 

I'd rather Chester & Davies in a back 4 than Dawson and Davies.

 

I just think Dawson and Davies are to similar to play together in a back two, however i don't think Bruce would sign Dawson if he didn't plan for him to be his starting centre back in any system. I think Chester has the ability to be better than both Dawson and Davies but if he doesn't start he will never achieve that.

 

I think Chester has the attributes not of our other centre backs have. Pace and passing good ability.

Dawson, Davies, McShane, McGuire and Bruce are what I call ball winning centre backs. They best suited to go and attack the ball and let the other defender use there pace to clear up around them.

If we're playing two centre backs I'd go with Chester and Davies. Dawson would next cab of the rank to either make it a three or as a replacement.

 

A defensive line, particularly in the middle need a good partnership. We already have that in Chester and Davies... So for that reason, assuming we go two at the back I'd play them two with Dawson backing up.

I know it's only been one game and Curtis didn't help him but I think Dawson was poor.

Should be the back four.

 

Always start with a touch of Chester and then add others as required. Simples.

 

I see Chester as a must in our back line for his calmness and technical ability on the ball ,but have nasty feeling the big money signing of Dawson will have to be justified by Bruce and will play ahead of Chester ... I think a lot of the players who got us in and kept us in the premier league will become the fall guys for the big money signings

 

Based on the Villa game it should be Davies who makes way for Chester. But i dont expect Davies to be that bad again for a while. For some reason Davies cannot play @ Villa anymore. Just ask Birmingham fans.

But it has to be Chester - Dawson - Davies as the first choice with Macca next in line. imo.
