11 scots, born from within a few miles radius of Glasgow, became the first and best ever british team to win the European Cup. Their likes have not been, and will not be, seen again.
Absolutely. No chance Scotland will ever have 11 players good enough to win the CL, or any other trophy for that matter.
Sorry swarbs but this is full of so much nonsense! So pre Roman all these clubs were not bothering to try and compete with united winning the league most years but suddenly did post roman? Lower teams don't get into Europe now? What about Swansea and Wigan in the last 2 years? The big 4 was nothing to do with Chelsea just a media coined phrase resulting from 4 teams consistently qualifying for the c.l for a few years. Love the reference to balancing spending and then mentioning Leeds!! A club still paying the price for 2 years of high spending pre roman!! Why ? to try and bridge the gap to united.
What he said. Swansea, Wigan and Hull this season. All got cracks at Europe so the idea of no small clubs getting in to Europe is clearly bollocks. The reason there was no big 4 until 2003 is simple, because until then we only got 3 champions League places, not 4. How exactly did United or Arsenal UP their spending to compete with us? Arsenal spent jack ****, United made all kinds of huge signings pre Roman, but never spent anywhere near the amount we did (mainly because they didnt need to). The main culprits for spending more to try compete were Liverpool and Spurs, both of whom spent a fortune with some success for Pool (CL and FA Cup) and none for Spurs (A league cup in the last decade?)
Swarbs is a bit like the Adrian Durham of not606. He can talk a lot of sense but does love a sensationalist point of view now and then (mostly entirely skewed in his club's favour) and I don't believe he believes half of what he writes. How you can talk about balanced spending and then mention Leeds. Genius posting. LMFAO!!
Just goes to show how much the standards of football has gone up over the years, as the game has become more global. There is no way 11 talentless jocks would be able to conquer Europe these days. Scotland haven't produced a world class player for atleast 20 years now!
If Salmond gets his way, does that mean every Scottish player in the prem has to go back to his place of birth? An 8 seater mini bus should just about cover it
