Aye, it has to have been given Eastern time. What I do remember is it was a ****ing nice day, hence my initial disinterest and desire to sit in the smoking garden with my snout and brew.

Was on nightshift that week so was in bed and fell asleep watching television, woke up to the 2nd tower being hit, didn't take it in at first, just felt like a dream.

Yep, WMS is right, great post.

There were many heroes that day.

The Fire Services are one of our greatest unsung members around us. So many were lost that day. Many of the NYPD branches had family members.

America, as a state gets some bad press, and rightly so at times. But the bloke on the street is just like us. Good at heart.

Yeah man, wherever you go, whatever nation, whatever walk of life, the majority of people are good people, people who wanna be happy, want others to be happy.

It's a sad reflection of the world we live in that this tiny, miniscule percentage of people, genuinely awful, evil, don't deserve to live people are those that dominate the thoughts of most on a daily basis.

I'm not suggesting we all close our eyes and la-la away and think of all the 'normality' around us, because that would make the normal the idiots.

It just shows the power of ****ing evil man, and that is such a ****, **** thing in a great world.

**** me, deep for a Thursday.

Was in work. Everyone gathered around me and as it's my birthday I thought everyone was going to sing. Then I realised everyone was just staring up as I had a TV above me. Looked up just as the second one hit. As I was in the Raf all ****ing hell broke loose and work was busy for quite a while after.

Couldn't celebrate me birthday for quite a while 'cause of those ****s!

The Golden Gate is within eyesight of Bay Bridge, just connects the north to SF, where the Bay Bridge connects the East. At the time, the Bay Bridge carried more cars in a single day than any bridge in the country. The GG turned out to be the target, but it was ****ing high alert everywhere.

Nothing will ever be the same here, we all know there is more to come. Inevitable.

You were right to mention the heroism of the NYFD, and also the NYPD. Bravery at its absolute finest.

We've lost a lot of our civil liberties and freedoms since that day. An immense topic of disagreement here. All in the name of security.

There was a naïveté that existed at the time, both in the US Govt and in the public sector. No more.

What remains are ideological extremists, a citizenry still reeling from the aftermath and still deciding who we should be, and who we want to be as a nation.

Yeah, sad indeed. But, I think most here and in Europe agree it's coming. It's not possible to stop every attempt.

Was visiting a contractors office, one of the guys had a small portable tv and he said "They've just crashed a plane into the twin towers" I thought he was talking about a soap opera. Went quite cold when I saw the pictures. Bastards!!!

Something that changed the world as we knew it.....but not for the better!

sitting at my dads bedside as he was dying of lung cancer. Sat with him overnight on the 10th and all the next day (11th). My mam, sister his 2 sisters and 2 brother in laws were also with him when he died at 5.30 on the 11th and that's when we first knew about the twin towers. Bit sad but it was 13 years ago now, feel sorry for my mam as she has to endure all the stories about 9/11 and it gets her down a lot.

****, i don't quite know what to say here...

It must be hard when the media and the world focus on this day for one event, when your family have the death of your dad to focus on.

    RIP Mr Crumble Bungle snr.

Cambridge I was working in the shopping precinct for my mate trying to get some sales his business, I couldn't work out why everyone was preoccupied and didn't want to speak to me - spent a couple of hours getting nowhere totally oblivious to what had happened, until some lass asked me if no shame trying to 'flog ****ty wares when the whole world was falling apart. I'd left my phone in the car too as my wife was ringing me constantly to come home.

That's pretty much bang on when I found out. I was working as a nightshift manager with Tesco's at the time down south and woke up about half four and came downstairs to see the person I was lodging with glued to the TV. Took a few minutes to take in what was going on. I'd not long been divorced back then and my American ex-wife, who I was still on friendly terms with, was due to be flying to New York that day, though I didn't know when or who with. It was a horrible few hours before I got hold of her and found out that she was due to be leaving late enough for her flight to have been cancelled before it left.
