I'd hate it if we were relocated to Melton (or anywhere outside of Hull) but my hatred for the location would not stop me supporting the club
The firm my Brother in Law works for moved from National Ave to Melton. It would take him 8 minutes to get to his old place of work and now it takes him 12. So in reality time and distance is nothing, but for City to move it would be a world away and nothing short of a disaster. The sad truth is that gates will not drop. Reading and Brighton are two games that are bastards to get to because of them being out of town.
Very similar situation actually happening here in Lyon with the new stadium of 60k (to be used for the Euros 2016) currently under construction and outside of the 'city' in a suburb. Currently 50% of fans walk or take the metro to the Stade de Gerland wheras with the new build 90% will use cars. It's not popular at all, but alas "l'argent parle"
I would be easier for me to get to Melton . However City are a Hull club , so they should play home games in Hull .
I don't want to be a hypocrite. Despite what I said earlier, if we move to Melton, I might be there on the first day cheering on as loudly as the next man - I just doubt I will be. Supporting a football club, isn't about logic, is it? It's all about what feels right. I don't support North Ferriby or Leeds or Liverpool, because I have no feeling towards them. During the whole Hull Tigers debacle last year, I felt more distant from the club than I had ever been. We were having a fantastic season, but something didn't feel right. I honestly believe there would just have been nothing left had the change gone through. When I think about a club outside of the city - it feels like that again. I can't go though the motions. If it's not in Hull I don't know if I will have the drive in me to support that new club. We say City till we die - but it's not really is it? It's City as long as we have a passion for it. The club in it's current incarnation could be top of the prem, or bottom of league two, and I am certain I'll have passion for it for as long as I live. But if we take away something which I believe is essential to the club, and that passion simply may not be there. It's not a choice.
I don't get this thread... The Melton threat was before he realised Premier League revenue was the real business plan. His wrath is with the FA. He couldn't give a **** about the Council anymore.
The football league say they wouldn't allow another MK Dons. Melton Tigers wouldn't be disallowed on those grounds?
It's a question of interpretation, isn't it? Clubs can't be moved to other cities - but they can be moved within in area - plenty have moved since the MK Dons debacle. The question would be - is Melton Hull? Personally, I think the FA would allow it.
Yeah, I'd still go, it's only a few miles down the road. Brighton and Hove Albion play their games at Falmer, which is 9.5 miles outside of Brighton. Their fans don't seem to give much of a **** nowadays, though there probably was a bit of backlash when it was first announced. Then again, anybody who went to the Withdean probably didn't complain, especially given how nice the Amex is.
Melton? Would be so much easier for me traveling in from Manchester. Would probably save me quite a few quid on fuel too each match. But that idea can just **** off! Even though I am a non-Hullensian, it was my Dad's home city and the reason I support the club. Nowadays I like traveling into the city along Anlaby Road and looking at the fond memories my Dad left me with - things like the treks to Boothferry Park, and all his stories along the way. The detours around Hawthorn Avenue we sometimes took to look at his old turf. The odd beer-cruise into the Old Town we took occasionally, (most memorably and poignantly for me after the promotion match against Cardiff). OK, it's probably a unique and overly-sentimental scenario but just the ritual of attending a match in Hull helps me keep the memory of my Dad and his support strong. So from a Way-out-West out of town supporter - **** Melton! And I know my Dad would agree.
I am not against the idea per se, any more than I am against any out of town stadiums. Sometimes the practicalities win out. So if there was a sound business case, sound transport plans and everything added up, then I'd probably be supportive. If it is purely fuelled by Allam-megolomania, with no tangible return and poorly thought out transport links, then it can sod off. I'll disclose that I am an East Riding fan, I have never lived in Hull itself.
It would solve all the problems. no name change. he could develop the land. he could build anything, even his beloved squash courts. PMT and the other CTWD members would still find something to complain about. So to AA, it is a win win situation.
This, in my opinion, is the correct answer. There seems to be two camps; those who will sell their history, memories, soul and identity for five minutes at the end of Match of the day and those who will not. I know which camp I am in.

If Falmer in the same council area? Cos Melton isnt. It's not Hull therefore it wouldnt be Hull's football team. Done.
