Evening All

A win double for me tomorrow:

2.10 Doncaster BraggingUp in grade tomorrow but seems to still be improving
3.45 Doncaster Long CrossEasily won a Newmarket maiden, could say the opening handicap mark is harsh but was very impressive that day.

Cheers Trevez

Fingers Crossed Ron!!

Thought the card at Doncaster tomorrow is very tricky, that opener is a pin job to me and the 3.15 with Richard Fahey having 7 runners, though I must say I do tend to have a look at those that have won on their only appearance on a racecourse in races like this and Grandads World quite takes my fancy here. Won a Pontefract Maiden, difficult to really assess the form of that win but is totally unexposed so could be worth an each way dabble at 14/1.

Gonna have to go against you in the 2.10 Trev with a couple against the field. J Wonder and Lucky Kristale.

J Wonder has proven herself a 7 furlong specialist and is by far and away the form horse in this race. Won very well last time at Goodwood and showed her turn of foot to good effect. Won under the same penalty that she carries in this i think she will be very hard to beat.

Lucky Kristale could be the fly in the ointment though. She was one of the best 2yo fillies around last year and won the Lowther very well. She stepped up rather unsuccessfully to a mile for the 1000 guineas and the coronation cup where she raced far too freely and pulled her chances away in the first two furlongs each time. She also ran as if something may have been amiss. She has been given a break since then and drops back to 7 furlongs with Tom Quelley back on board who was on board for all her wins. If she proves as effective over 7 as she did 6 and has got over what was troubling her i think she could be a massive price at 16/1.

Hello, all. One that I really like today runs in the rich sales race ‘oooooooooooooop’ at old Donny (3.15). LEXINGTON TIMES greatly impressed me in Sandown’s 'Solario' last time finishing right on the heels of the very useful looking pair of Aktabantay and Future Empire. In fact were it not for him weakening slightly in the last 50 yards or so he may well have won that Group 3 contest.

Today’s trip is over half a furlong less than that heat which should be of huge benefit to Richard Hannon’s charge and a reproduction of the Sandown effort would, in my opinion, see Lexington Times home with something to spare as to the Chuckle eye he meets nothing of that calibre this afternoon.

5 out of the last 6 winners of this sales contest have been drawn in a double figured stall (the only exception was Wootton Bassett, or should that now be Royal Wootton Bassett, who went on to win a Group 1 later in that year) so Lexington Times looks ideally berthed in box 18. Furthermore, his yard are well used to priming one for winning these sorts of affairs.

Like him a lot a would certainly recommend the old regular readers take the current 8/1 being offered by old boy Victor in a rare piece of generosity.

Good luck all.

From the front page of the RP "...day two of the St Leger festival".

Day which of the what? When did that happen then? Yes, I know it's the oldest classic, and I'm all for tradition, but a sow's ear is still a pigs lughole and the Leger is a long schlep round a gaff track, so "festival" is coming it a bit strong.

On the other hand, here we are on a Thursday being treated to big fields competing for decent prize money, so Donny deserve a bit of applause.

It'll be a rare day in yorkshire when an Easterby goes home potless. Consequently, I'll have a couple of bob on Mattmu in the Sales Race at 3.00pm at 12/1 or thereabouts, and will also keep a close eye on Secret Friend at 33/1, whose penalty get's her in at the bottom of the Fillies Nursery at 1.40.

Have taken 25/1, each-way, with Ladbrokes, about SMOOTHTALKINRASCAL in Saturday’s ‘Portland’. Think he is the class horse in the race and off these compressed weights think he will be very difficult to keep out of the first 4.

After Epsom’s ‘Dash’ last year I thought this one was destined to take very high rank amongst the sprinters but at Pattern level it has never quite happened for Smoothtalkinrascal. In this sort of Grade though he is very tough and has the ability to outclass his opposition. His form in non Listed and Group affairs since the beginning of last season reads -1231210. Furthermore, in none of those handicaps did he run below 95 (peaked at 106) whilst in the conditions events he raced, off levels or worse, against beasts rated well into the 100’s.

6 out of the last 7 winners of this handicap have had double figured draws so the old boy looks nicely berthed in 20. Plus his yard know how to win the heat having won it in 2012. Also the ground shouldn’t be an isuue, whatever happens, as he has won on both good/firm and good/soft.

I think 25/1 is an insulting price, not that I’m complaining, and think 103 a perch that the Smoothtalkinrascal can exploit.

Criteria was a heavy "loss" for me last time out so she better not win today as I've gone against her. Sod's law will probably prevail.

****ing hell. The trainer tipped up Bond's Girl as the best hope of his 7. Should have had a saver on that.
