Watching Mark Oxleys goal (sorry could not find the original thread about his goal of the month) it makes you wonder why more keepers don't kick long into the box? Is it because most keepers can't kick that far??

If they can it would certainly bring more chances than kicking the ball to an opposing player which seems to happen much of the time. Kicks into the opposing box could cause mayhem.

It's harder than you think to be able to do that, I know of only a few goalkeepers in the world that can kick from one box to the other without it bouncing. We think it's simple watching them play, but when you're down there the pitch is much bigger than people think. The average person can kick it to the half way line (from the six yard box). When I was playing week in, week out, I could kick it well into the opposition half, but now I'd struggle without the proper kicking conditioning.

Plus, Oxley's goal was wind-assisted, which obviously helped a whole bunch.

what he said, the pitch is way bigger once you're on it, it's a bloody long way to the opposition box, its why most keepers tend to get in the middle of the opposition half

    It was a complete fluke.

Possession is why fewer keepers kick long these days.
