I hope this season he will be one of the first nameson the team sheet, everytime I see him play for us he is the most creative player on the pitch.

I think he would have played more this season but for injury. We shall see what happens this season.

He has been injured and is on the verge of a full time return. Gus had said he will expect a lot from Giacchi this season.

He has been coming back from injury...

Playing 90 minutes for Italy is great from our point of view, as it means he might finally be fit enough to play a big part in our upcoming games.

    It's bollocks this argument mate.

He's 29, been 'lightweight' his hole career, managed many Italy caps and played for Juve in the Champions League.

I've met him a few times and he is tiny height wise, but his shoulders and upper body are absolutely ripped, he hasn't played due to lack of fitness, his size will mean in a fast paced league he will run out of legs in a percentage of games, but his size isn't a barrier.

Zola was about the same size, point of note. Juninho was smaller.

Him and Wickham seem to have a class understanding. I agree he';s so creative and I think he fits in perfectly with Gus's style - also think he's a better option than Borini

Ive watched a bit of the game last night and he was making tackles in the middle of the pitch and tracking back. Went through late on and probably would have scored if he wasnt so selfless and squared the ball to immobile who fluffed his lines.

I never thought it before but I think he could play in a central three in a 4-3-3 next to Catts and Rodwell. When we are attacking that effectively becomes a 4-2-3-1/ 4-4-2 with Giaccherini up just off the striker. Id love Guss to play an attacking line up especially at home against the teams in and around us.

Against the top sides and away maybe we would work better bringing Larsson or Bridcutt in to offer more defensively

Easy, because his return to fitness coincided with this utterly pointless international break.

It has a bright side though, Italy has just given him 180 minutes of football in his return to fitness, 180 minutes we didn't need to give him because they've given him it for us, and that's great.

I can't wait to see this lad get an extended run in the starting line-up.

He's what we've been missing so many times now.

Neat and tidy, but he is lightweight and he might have been cautioned for one or two late tackles, he is not a defensive midfielder, and last night he never tried to take players on in the final third, he seems to lack speed and trickery, always looking for the safe pass and this makes him easy to read.

Always looking for the safe pass?

So, you don't watch Sunderland then? Giacc more than anyone I've seen in the shirt since Hutch is the man who splits defences and plays quality balls in behind.

That's a bizarre statement. Watch the highlights from City away, Cardiff & West Brom, just off the top of my head.

His goals & assists to minutes on pitch stats certainly suggest 'easy to read' is not a tag he deserves, at all!

He's never been a dribbler, that part is true, more one that uses his touch to get half a yard to play the ball.

GG lightweight, let me clarify, think he gets brushed of the ball to easily, in the premier league you don't get the time offered in Italian leagues IMHO. Of course there has been many gifted small players but that type always seemed to find space?? Does giac, don't get me wrong I like him and the loyalty he has shown, suppose we will have to wait for a fit giac to debate further

Fair, we have to see him get a run of games, certainly.

I just don't buy that being lightweight alone will hinder him, as I say Zola is the prime example.

it baffles me that gus still plays fletch while giacci is on the bench. we have not seen much indication that fletch and conner as 2 of a upfront 3 can work and to be honest fletcher hasnt upped his interest from last season and at this point seems a waste of a shirt. i think its really time to ditch fletch move conner to the middle and the we have plenty of options to fill the other 2 places

Just scraped my post because you've nailed it fella.

I have to say I'm way more excited about Giacc this season then I am worried. He may get a rough ride but this lad will punish opponents no doubt about it, he's a class of player rarely seen at clubs like ours. He's got the intelligence to put an opponents lights out with the slightest opportunity as he showed many times last season. Jozy and Connor have already developed an understanding with him, Jozy making space and Connor making runs. Giacc is a class act imo who plays for the team and gets the team playing for him. We're so lucky to have him and can't wait for him to get going. His efforts in the QPR tells me he's well up for it.

We need to play people on form and IMO that means dropping Fletch and AJ and giving Buckley and Giacc the next 3 games with Wickham.
