Yes, I think Cornwell used the tension between Uhtred, the hero of the books, and Alfred, as a literary device to come up with more plot lines. As the books are all written in the first person through Uhtred's eyes it explains why Alfred doesn't get a very good character. The fact that Uhtred is shagging Æthelflæd, which Alfred obviously disapproved of, didn't help either.

    Two things -

1 - got a Fable gig in London tomorrow so not going
2 - if I was going, I wouldn't be filming it because I'd want to experience the event, not looking through a 3 inch screen. It's also incredibly annoying for the band when people don't engage, then load crap quality, **** sounding clips on to YouTube.

    Just saying :)

Regarding 2, the trick is to hold your camera up in the general direction of the band, trying to keep it steady while not looking through the screen. There is the risk of movement though, but if you keep your hand's steady, it should be okay.

I wish someone had filmed Blackmore's Night's rendition of Renaissance Faire at G-Live last year, it was epic! So epic I would have bought a copy had they released it on iTunes. Unfortunately the stewards were on a power-trip and refusing to allow anyone to film/take photos. :'(

No, the trick is to turn your phone off and enjoy the experience.

I presume you don't film when you go to the theatre because you're busy watching the show? Why do it at a gig?

Thank heavens it's not just me. Why watch it later in 2D with awful sound when you're there to experience it in glorious reality sound and vision? I watched Seasick Steve at Southsea the other week and I'll never forget the noise, the passion, the goosebumps and the immersive experience. Near me were twonks with camera who missed the experience for the sake of crap footage that they'll probably never watch.

The football league are threatening not to take QPR back if they don't pay their fine for breaching FFP rules and are relegated from the PL...

I really don't understand why people film gigs. Especially ones that are being professionally recorded anyway. If I've paid 50 quid for a ticket to something I may take a few photos but other than that the phone stays in the pocket and I enjoy and add to the atmosphere.

I'm kind of doing something out of my usual depth here. First of all I'm babysitting. That's no big deal, but I'm actually browsing and writing this on a 40" Samsung Smart TV. This is the first time I've had the chance to do this. Even with a Quad-Core processor, it's no lightning rod, but it does reasonably well. Of course EVERYTHING looks big enough. At home I have a fast PC running a Panasonic Dumb TV and the combo is definitely nerdier but actually easier and more flexible to use overall. This Samsung is very nearly a full blown computer, but it stops just a little short. Maybe I need to work out it's quirks [like an old Apple Mac] before I become too judgemental. It is doing some odd things though. One thing; sometimes I can type like billy-ho, and then sometimes it just goes dead. Odd..! Something to look into. Beautiful technology that is around 90% of being just right.

Yes. "Bloody Mary"....... I see your Mary and raise you, Isabella, the "She Wolf" of France, queen of Edward II....nice piece of work. Came from a good family-her father Philippe Le Bel was responsible for the massacre of the Knights Templar and the expulsion of the Jews: two groups to whom he just happened to owe a huge sum of money. One way to "rationalise" your debts? <laugh>

    God bless this Queensland government.

What a random coincidence such hard hitting 'laws' should come into effect while the government is strapped for cash.

What I want to know is: why 227.70? Why not 225 or 230?

It's not in pounds. That's the actual dollar amount of the fine.
