As a Utd supporter i was a bit miffed when we let Welbeck go. Local lad come up through the ranks and made it into the first team squad. Danny always puts in a shift even if sometimes his finishing has been frustrating. He is still young and i have no doubt Wenger is the type of manager who could take him to the next level. I hope Welbeck has a great career ahead of him at Arsenal and wish him all the best. (I hope it`s not at the expense of UTD though :-( ).

I actually quite enjoyed the game last night. An average age of 24 and the team played with a lot more energy than normal. There were still issues, the team still need to get to know each other and Delph is a walking booking but aside from that it was quite promising.

    For me though:

Stones is not a natural RB. Defensively he might be solid but he looked gash when he pushed up. Not his fault by any means but I'd rather a natural RB was given a chance, be it Walker or whoever. Chambers I think can stake a claim down the line and Clyne looks promising too so it's not like there aren't a few options. I'd like to see us blood these lads when playing poor opposition which, frankly, our group is! Stones should get a chance to play as a CB if he's got the potential.

Phil Jones' confidence looks shot. I actually feel for him as he's one of the English kids who was over-hyped. Maybe a few more games playing regularly in his natural position would help him but right now I worry.

Jack playing as a midfield anchor wastes his abilities. He looked lost positionally to me and the only good things he did were when he surged forward. A nice one two finishing in a (pretty sh*t) shot and a superb pass to Pig-boy who did a Sanogo first touch!

Delph was industrious but was very lucky not to walk. He strikes me as someone who does most things well but nothing exceptionally. Maybe Roy wants more utility players to support the flair of Sterling. I dunno but I think there are better options.

Rooney seems to lack a bit of belief in his shooting. He did ok and was encouraging the players but it feels like he's trying so hard that it's counter-productive.

Welbeck. Damn that boy is fit. His running after 90 minutes was incredible. Shame he ballsed his pass to Sterling but it was made by his hustling which I admire. Personally I would have liked to see him shoot but you can see why he tried of square it.

Fair play to Hart as well. Not normally his biggest fan but two cracking saves after not having to do much is the mark of a good keeper.

Hmm. I enjoyed an England match. What an odd emotion.

I didn't see much of the game but what I did watch and the replays of some of the Swiss chances made me think exactly the same about Jones, he looked poor, out of form and confidence and I think the whole defence looked suspect. Though Cahill made one or two (that i saw) good recoveries.

Oh aye, Cahill was alright. I am rarely blown away by his performances but then again I'm also rarely see him balls up. A solid 7/10 player on a consistent basis. Jones is going to be constantly in the lime light as he plays for a massive club who are going through a rough patch. He'll need to get back to his best quickly as United don't look like they're in a patient, nurturing mood. I can see them investing heavily in January but this time in defence.

A few observations from the game.

Having Michael Owen as a commentator isn't going to make more people watch England games. The rest of my observations may be tempered by the fact that I just wanted to disagree with everything he said out of principle.

Welbeck's cutback to Sterling looked perfect to me. Sterling stops dead in his tracks just as Welbeck let's go the pass.

Wilshere still didn't look back to his best, but it was a sign of some improvement. Maybe, like Ramsey, internationals will be a help.

Manchester United players all look like they are tired and lacking in confidence. How the mighty have fallen.

Delph was dire in the extreme. Is he really the best midfielder we have got? lots of pace and not much else. Ox and Walcott have to be better.

Liverpool players can do no wrong. When they take a dump perfume flows out. I thought Sterling was absolute pants, while the commentators were creaming themselves every time he touched (and usually lost) the ball.

Stones looked really dodgy. Can't believe that he is our best right back.

Baines may be on the decline. He showed signs that he is losing some of his pace and agility.

England were crap. First touch and control was absolute pants. Wilshere looked half-reasonable, because everyone around him looked worse. We made Switzerland look like Brazil at times.

Welbeck might be the best buy of the summer. He looked a lot better than Rooney to me.

England games are still dull and lifeless.

I generally find the ENgland team is often encapsulated by the manager.

Hodgon and Hodgson's England - dull and lifeless
Capello and Capello's England - formulaic, by the book, overrated, not that great, can beat the poor teams
McClaren and McClaren's England - dim, tactically clueless
Eriksson and Eriksson's England - cheeky, flashes of quality but ultimately a bit clueless
Keegan and Keegan's England - Attacking, brash, tactically clueless

Why can't England ever have a young energetic manager? We always seem to get managers 10 years past their best, and ones who weren't even that great at their best anyway.

Hasn't been at his best for a while. A couple of goals have masked some average performances this season. Even uninjured he needs to try and get back to his top level that he showed for 6 months last season.

Not end of the world as we have Wilshere and Cazorla to step in to partner Ozil. But as cini65 points out, Ramsey hasn't hit any form, so it's not a huge miss at the moment. We have more than capable replacements.

    .....

Ramsey not on form already has 3 goals for us, including the winner against C.Palace, and the crucial goal that started the comeback against Everton.

Maybe I should have said top form. Wilshere seems to be getting better so we do have choices. We have forgotten that we have Rosicky, who can still do a job. He is after all still being picked for the Czech Rep who just beat Holland...

Is this an emergence of that old game "let's blame Ramsey for everything"??

The whole team have been poor so far, people mention Ramsey because he's supposed to be one of our key players
