I was Mick and Nigel's roadie for one day only, they were in the same band, and I think Dave Stewart (the Wasp) traveled too but I,m not sure, great days those.
Listening to them right now again., no doubt the best band from sunderland.
My son saw the Toy Dolls recently at my behest - think it was at Manor Quay. I saw them at the Wine Loft in Holmeside a few times in the 80's. Did anyone see 1977 after the Man Utd game, outside the Point I think.
Surprised that no one has talked about Prefab Sprout, a very much a local band who had a influence over a lot of others.
Me (hee hee!) Knopfler is phenomenal! He's a genius on the guitar - never was a great singer but I could watch him play guitar for hours!!
Good shout mate, they were from Langley Park I think.
Paddy McAloon a Sunderland supporter, drank with him once before a game in the Pilot Cutter(now the Harbour View) with the late erstwhile comedian Mark Rough.
I'd agree. I listened to them last Saturday morning after logging on here, then watched one of their gigs which someone had put on YouTube. Spent most of Saturday with a smile on my face. Tongue in cheek punk, tuneful and fun. They're getting a bit of a cult following with their entertaining gigs. A pal saw them 2year ago in the UK and said it was the best gig he'd been to. I'm trying to see if I can get down to Poland this October and see them play.....
Paddy McAloon, probably our most intelligent songwriter. Still living around Durham, or Consett area.
The North East is blessed and spoilt with a fantastic amount of musical talent, having played all over the country, in my opinion this area is the best - there's a bubbling undercurrent of new singer/songwriters/bands/ that are out daily playing and plying there trade in pubs and venues - what's needed is more audiences to support the venues and artist, peeps need to stop watching X FACTOR crap and go out and see it for real .
X-Factor? This guy says it all. ****ing X-Factor
