I can't be as optimistic as AMOT on another thread. Our club is dying before our eyes. We are but a shadow of the proud club we once were. If we are to survive we have to get out of the Conference this season. Remember, only one goes up of right; the second place is down to the lottery of play-offs. AND, four drop out at the bottom. If we don't go up this season think about ST sales for next season. Think about home attendances. Good players will be increasingly unlikely to want to come here. There will be further financial constraints. We are not a League side bumming it in the Conference, we are a Conference side playing in the Conference. We have a Conference manager managing a Conference load of players in a ground increasingly becoming of Conference standard led by an inept BoD. I've seen enough lower league football to say that we're are now on a par with Conference and Conference South sides. Rip off the blinkers, put aside the blind faith, forget all thoughts that we're unlucky to be here.
We are not unlucky to be here. I have said that and I was one of the biggest critics of the performances of both players and manager last season. I am concerned like everyone else but I don't think the situation in the context of THIS season has become desperate just yet. I know it is difficult after the last few seasons to be patient, but I think it is a must for the time being. There are some very average players that have been brought in, but Trotman, Mansell, Monkhouse, Lockyer, Brunt, Clarke and Brown are all quality players at this level when fit and playing well. If we are in the bottom 10 by the beginning of October, that is when I will start seriously doubting Clarke's suitability for the job. As things stand I can only think of two managers in the Conference who can do a better job - Martin Allen and Gary Mills.
BUT we have to win this league. I can't see us surviving another season as new teams drop out of L2 and enthusiastic teams come up from the feeder North and South. More than one season here and we'll become at best just another Conference side, or at worst fold.
I agree with you to a degree, but the likes of Luton, Cambridge, Mansfield York and Oxford have all made it back in the end. There are still 39 games left this season. I think the play-offs is the best we can hope for - but now is not the time to conclude that a relegation battle is ahead.
Easy Question to answer... optimistic answer would be top 2 if the Board had acted with ambition and taken responsibility of poor decisions in the past and learned by them!! But we are talking about Higgs and co and as long as Higgs and his merry men stay at the helm anything is possible even relegation!! I have lost all faith with the Board and any further decisions they may need to make! Can the last True gashead turn the lights off on there way out... R.I.P BRFC
well they need to make a decision about DC and if they do get rid then they need to make a decision on hiring the next manager. if you were a manager and you get approached by higgs, would you take the job knowing we get rid of managers for fun and that we dont have any real star players who could help you get out of this mess??
The last potential match-winner we had was Carayol, so that says it all. O'Toole was too much of a liability to be considered one IMO.
Pirate is spot on I'm afraid, we are conference club from top to bottom. Quite frankly I fear we will remain a conference club as long as Higgs and Co remain at the helm.
I don't think the board give a **** I think they want the club to die just think about it if they loved it then they would of acted years ago.
F6ck me with these Clowns in charge and the jokers on the pitch we'd be lucky to stay in the Conf, my best guess is that we shall go through the hoop and I dont mean the Circus hoop. No money (now GD has gone), maybe just maybe their is a Saviour out there that can wrestle the Club from the ravages of NH.
We have the same problem we had last season, we don't create many chances and we don't put them away when we do, If we don't get a really good creative CM and a striker who is fully fit and able to put the ball in the net we are going to struggle. I believe in DC and I also believe he is trying to rectify the problems, and as the GAS all we can do whenever we are able to attend is let the players know that as long as they are doing their best WE WILL SUPPORT THEM
Well their best simply is not good enough because in all reality they are not good enough and that is why they are here old pals and all that, further more that is why we are where we are. remember DC has had over 14 months at the Club, his record is woeful as are HIS signings. That is why we are in the proud position that we are, it might be acceptable to some on here and indeed by the inaction of our Board to them also, but any my guess is that most Gasheads share a different view.
I dont know what the answer is but I sure as hell know it isn't Darrell Clarke. Do you know what narks me more than anything else ? It's when on the build up to a game like on Saturday he comes out with this incredibly negative talk about giving the opposition respect, and we can't expect walkovers in these type of games ! I might be wrong but arn't Braintree Town another one of these part time set ups ? He is managing Bristol Rovers FC and the last thing the players want to hear is talk like that, they want a Henry V speech before every game to give them all some positivety and get us straight back up out of this league, if I was being cynical I would almost think he is making his excuses for a poor performance before we have even kicked off.
What with DC addmission that he goes on this forum (see recent signing news ) and the support that OT offers in respect of DC is OT DC ? If not what is DC user name ?
Well, like everything else in life I suppose 'time will tell' but his clock has been ticking for quite a while now and if we get many more results like last Saturday's I fear his battery may have run it's race.
