For star quality has to be Monty. For a decade he was second only to Gordon Banks. Opposite end to SKP but he stood between us and many a good hiding.

If he hadn't been a walking sick note John Mensa would have been up there. Then again if he hadn't been a walking sick note we would never have got him

Stan Varga - but just for his debut. He was poor after that

Darren Bent. In 2010, it became a national disgrace that he was the only player in Europe to score over 20 goals and not go to the World Cup. It made the national papers and the whole country turned against Capello over that.

In international terms, I'd say either Jozy Altidore or Asamoah Gyan. Certainly Gyan, after the 2010 World Cup.

    SKP is the obvious answer.

    I'm going for Jimmy Montgomery.

The greatest goalie we ever had with the unfortunate bad timing to be born at the same time as Banks and Shilts.

The best footballer we have had in my lifetime is Don Hutchison.

Whether this answers the question I don't know.

Not sure I'd call him a genuine star. He was a good player amid mediocrity (excluding SKP, Quinny)

Aye, that's what I meant by the second line.

Wasn't as cultured as Kev, or Arca, or even a few more, but he made the whole team tick and made the entire team better, hence I think he's the best footballer we've had in my time.

Henderson has gone on to be a star for Liverpool and is an England regular. We got just under £20m for him aswell..

I think its those who raise the profile and fans of other clubs would like the player at there place

    Recent id say
    Sessegnon
    Gyan
    Bent

    At the time Kenwyne Jones

    Mignolet

Before that you're going back to Super Kev, Michael Bridges.

Not enough really when that's going back nearly 20 years

Dave Watson was a giant of a man, Tueart was very talented - both went on to do great things for their country.

However the last legend for Sunderland was Sir Kevin Phillips.

Hard to argue with that really. SKP would have graced any team in the PL over the last 20 years IMO.

He just plain and simple knew where the goal was. And a Golden Boot winner as well!

I'm amazed we kept him as long as we did.

I'm gutted we didn't have Jordan Henderson for longer, I always knew he would go on to play for England. The lad has everything except tackling. He is now a top drawer player but sadly will not be a Sunderland legend. That is what is wrong with modern day football.
