Beckham was one of the best passing players ever.

Wouldn't put him in CM in any case. Scholes should be there.

People are also forgetting Nicky Butt, he was a very good player who often gets over looked.

Also you as pointed out before, the Golden Generation should have been used as a squad rather than trying to cram all those players into one team.

Against big nations like Brazil etc playing Hargreaves, Butt and Scholes would have worked while against your middle ground teams Hargreaves, Scholes/Becks, Lampard/Gerrard and against rubbish teams do what you want with any of them.

Golden generation?? Wasn't even good enough to be a bronze generation. More like a dark ages generation or the 'iridium from the Cretaceous–Tertiary (K–T) extinction event generation'.

I think it was a good bunch of players who didn't achieve quite as much as they could have done due to apathetic and cowardly management.

England managers and the FA just dont get it, and still dont get it.

I had forgotten about Nicky Butt.

Two teams with 2014 tactics that both look decent.
    --------------James--------------
    Neville-Ferdinand-Terry-A.Cole
    -----Hargreaves--Scholes-----
    --Beckham--Lampard--Cole--
    --------------Rooney-----------

    --------------Robinson------------
    Carragher-King-Campbell-Bridge
    ---------Gerrard---Butt-----------
    ---Vassell-----Dyer-----Heskey--
    ---------------Owen---------------

Based on Euro 2004 squad. Except for Ferdinand who was banned.

Sven was a good manager but I guess he just wasnt quite the big games manager.

We'd get to the quarter finals but loose to one of the favourites (Brazil and Portugal twice).

I genuinely think if Lampard's goal had been allowed against Germany we would have won the game.
