Exactly. Not as prestigious as the FA Cup or League Cup, but you are definitely NOT going to win one of those, so why not enjoy the ride?....and you might get back to Wembley for a fun day out!

Yes it's the one competition where Southampton have a better record than Pompey.

    More FA Cup semi-finals?

More games in Europe including a major European quarter final?

Very nice but you see, the way it works is you have to win things and only then, do they go on your list of honours.

How about all time largest winning margins?

    Saints 5 - Pompey 1
    (FA Cup, 13 Jan 1906)
    Saints 5 - Pompey 1
    (11 Sept 1920)
    Saints 5 - Pompey 1
    (27 Aug 1960)
    Saints 4 - Pompey 0
    (17 April 1975)

    Any good?

Right, lets get all this tit-for-tat rivalry rubbish out of the way and get on with our lives shall we? Here are the stats for the South Coast Rivalry:

Games played overall 139 - Portsmouth won 62, Southampton won 56, 21 have been drawn

Played 70 professional games in total - Southampton have won 34, Portsmouth have won 21, 15 have been draws.

Biggest home win for Southampton 5-1 in 1920 and 1960, biggest away win 5-2 in 1966. Biggest home win for Portsmouth 4-1 in 2005, biggest away win 3-1 in 1925.

Played six times in the League or FA Cup, Southampton have won five lost one.

    Most trophies/honours won - Portsmouth 14, Southampton 11

Most major trophies/honours won - Portmouth 8 -two First Division/Premier League titles, two FA Cup's, one First Division/Championship title, three Third Division/League One Titles - Southampton 3 - one FA Cup, two Third Division/League One titles.

Most consecutive years of top flight football - Southampton 27 (1977-2005), Portsmouth 25 (1927-1939 and 1946-1959)

Now can we agree that there are area's both can claim superiority in?

Got a point, Lapras. It's not like we're going to get the chance to redress THAT balance for a long while (unless we draw you in a cup).<whistle>

I have very fond memories of the JPT. It represented the start of turning the supertanker around and heralded a fantastic era to be a fan of my club. We all know that Pompey had more glamourous success years ago, and some success with unintended consequences more recently, but don't rubbish this cup. It's an honest competition and one where you have a chance of some honest success. I hope you take it seriously.
