That's right, not the transfer pot - into the club. What's more is that it looks as though the 8.1m is to be paid in installments. Clegg says there will be no new money for transfers 'in the morning'.
8.1m was never going to paid in one single sum, it really only happens in installments these days anyway, so thats no surprise. Secondly, Clegg said 'as of tomorrow morning I won’t have £8.1 million of new money to spend' not that there will be no new money in the morning. There probably will be, but not the full £8.1m It's not all going to be used up in one morning, so don't worry. Finally, the whole 'into the club' thing has been blown completely out of proportion! He certainly meant transfers, and in the whole scheme of things more money will be available for transfers, even if the Wickham money is spent elsewhere in the club. Eg. If the money goes towards the Portman Road rent, the savings from that will probably come back to PJ for transfers. Also, £8.1m is on top of what PJ already has to spend (I'd guess around £3m more), and I would not be shocked nor disappointed if not all of that money went on transfers. The club is bigger than big name signings alone remember. Investment in the youth system is always a good star, that is still 'investing in the club'.
Investment in youth is all fine and dandy Cinnamon providing we can actually keep hold of them, otherwise we merely become a stable for rearing and then selling on. We do not benefit from this other than through the financial gain. This in turn brings us back full circle. We needed to invest before CW's departure and obviously that need is still greater now. Big names mean as much to me as jumped up job titles, not interested. However, I would like to see some genuine quality brought in to boost our squad.
No cinnamon. You're too naive. If someone in public relations says in the club, he means in the club. If he meant transfers then he'd say transfers. Yes I'm sure some of it will be used to sign players, but really when we have an owner worth 800m then cash-flow of 8m shouldn't come into it. The longer the Evans / Clegg era goes on, the more I think we're being hoodwinked. We are getting close to the point where it looks as though Evans is taking money out of the club in the long term.
