    Couple from me today.

    3.50 Haydock Extortionist 16/1

I do think that Gordon Lord Byron is the most likely winner here. However, no disrespect to Wayne Lordan but he is no Johnny Murtagh who gave him an absolute peach of a ride last time and i want to take him on here. Sole Power seems better than ever however with rain this morning and the fact he has never won a race at 6f means i'm leaving him alone. If he wins then i am happy to watch him win and would be delighted if he could do it. I don't think Tropics is good enough to beat the best of these and although Cougar Mountain is highly promising, i certainly think his best days are ahead of him.

Im going along with Chelsea on this and picking Extortionist. Has ran incredibly consistently this season and has certainly shaped as though the step up to 6 furlongs could be ideal. He has been flying towards the end of each race and with doubts about a few at the top of the market i cannot see him being out of the top 4 and think he has a massive chance of getting his head in front here to cap a great season for the horse

    4.55 Thirsk Grigolo 9/2

Won what looked like a strong looking nursery at Glorious Goodwood beating a couple of these and then followed up at Salisbury quite convincingly both on good to firm ground which he gets again today. He is a big strapping colt who looks to have plenty of improvement left in him. He also looks like the step up in trip will suit.

Time to take Confessional. Great form in this race and ran a stormer in his prep for this. He will do for me today.

A couple more selections to add to my one earlier, I am too in the Extortionist Camp, think it's got a great chance as Brough said.

    £1 Win L15

    3.15 Hay Havana Cooler
3.30 Asc Astronereus (should have won last time out)
    3.50 Hay Extortionist
    4.40 Asc Fray

    Good Luck To All

At Ascot, I am interested in two Rogers: in the 3:30, Roger Varian fields the progressive Battersea, which is likely to start favourite for what looks a tough handicap; and in the 4:40, Roger Charlton runs Fray, who should be better suited by today’s quicker ground and may have most to fear from Khalid Abdullah’s other horse, Alzanti, whose last race can be ignored.

Haydock looks like a favourite’s card. In the 2:40, is the ground quick enough for Captain Cat? Will the 7lb rise stop Felix Leiter in the 4:25? At 5:00, Godolphin’s Latharnach is clearly very well regarded and in the 5:30 the well-related Mizzou looks well handicapped. This looks too easy to be true.

The two question marks are the big races:

Havana Cooler has the best piece of form in the Old Borough Cup but also has to give weight away all round; and a big factor could be how the race is run.

With neither the ground or the trip in his favour, Sole Power should be opposed in the Sprint Cup; and the trip is also the problem for Extortionist and Pearl Secret. Gordon Lord Byron wants easy ground and I am unconvinced that Tropics’ July Cup second was not a fluke, so the process of elimination leads me to Music Master (that is unfortunately Prisewise’s tip).

Well, if that is anything to go by then you want to be drawn low in the Sprint Cup! Not good news for GLB drawn over in 18....

The trip is the problem for Extortionist? How do you work that out? He needs 6F and will relish 6F and will be seen at his best over 6F

Going to take a chance on Penitent in the next at Haydock. Not convinced by any of the horses at the top of the market and Penitent is a proven group racing performer. 12/1 looks a decent price

Hughsie just fell off Havana Cooler at the start, I was convinced she would win today.

They really need do something about this as the horse clearly did not take part, should be a non-runner rule 4 scenario.

Whilst Sole Power was quite clearly the best horse in the Nunthorpe, he's never won over 6 furlongs, main reason why I'm not backing him in the Haydock Park Sprint Cup. Jockey booking of Pat Smullen for Extortionist takes the eye.

Can't find any youtube footage of the best sprinter to win this race - Dayjur in 1990 (possibly the best sprinter of all time).

McCoy wins on Authorship - that's his last 7 rides that have won, 123 for the season.

I agree - I can see no reason Sole Power should be favourite when he has yet to win at 6f. I have backed Gordon Lord Byron.

God that bloody QIPCO music gets right on my tits - pompous, pretentious nonsense. "Theme From Shaft" would be much better
