Our first choice midfield is immense, but I think that the squad could do with a bit of a trim in that area. If we were to lose Jenas, Palacios, Dos Santos and Bentley and bring in Parker, back-up for Lennon and maybe a prospect or two, then I'd be very, very happy. It looks like the idea at the back is to lose Bassong, which is unfortunately, replace Hutton with Walker, which is great, loan out Caulker, Naughton and Khumalo again and bring in someone like Cahill or Shawcross. Sounds about right, honestly. Our forward line is a worry, though. It needs a lot of work.
Nah, easily solved with one or two signings, who MAY be hard to find but in Levy we need to trust. Agree on the back and Cahill would be great alongside Daws, with Kaboul as backup. It's a shame about Bassong tho. We do need to trim though. I think Dos Santos should stay, the rest are just deadweights. Of them, am most disappointed in Palacios. He was just what we needed a couple of years ago but seems to have stagnated
The truth is, that a lot of them were either mistakes, or we paid too much - or both. It's one of the reasons we're having trouble shifting them now.
At the time we bought them, I think they could have gone either way. I wasn't blown away by the actual signing in each case but it just hasn't worked out. I mean, look at Bentley. He should have been just the ticket. Palacios too, he actually had a great start. But don't get me started on Jenas. Spurs fans generally sit in two camps on him, like Marmite. I'm definitely a "if I never see him pull on the short again" I'll be very happy
I think that Palacios was understandably derailed by the murder of his brother, Stick. I hope that he'll get back to his best with a move and a change of scenery.
I think, Ensil, that Commoli had a big input in those days. You remember him, the genius who got rid of Martin Jol, and gave us "one day" Ramos
