Skysports.com understands Tottenham have tabled an offer for French sensation M'Baye Niang.

Niang is regarded as one of the best young prospects to emerge in French football after bursting onto the scene at the back end of last season with Caen.

The 16-year-old only made his first-team debut in April and scored three goals in seven games.

His performances played a key part in keeping Caen in Ligue 1 last season and his emergence has alerted a number of clubs across Europe to his potential.

Manchester City have been credited with an interest in the teenager, but Spurs have made the first move for Niang.

Spurs are thought to have tabled a bid in the region of €8million for the 6ft frontman as they look to steal a march on their rivals.

Caen are thought to be considering the offer, but the developments could see other clubs enter the race for the exciting forward.

Probably ****ty will come in with some ridiculous bid. Even if it's just to keep him out of rival hands.

I've seen him play several times. Quite a prospect.

I find it extremely unlikely that there's a 16-year-old, French striker available and Wenger hasn't put a bid in for him.
    SSN must be mistaken.

Potentials one thing but it's still a hell of a lot to pay for a 16 year old.

If he's 16 why have they tabled an 8 million euro bid?

I thought youngsters couldnt sign professional terms till they hit 17 so surely it could be done with a smaller compensation fee?

Sixteen years old and plays for a town smaller than Ashford and we have bid 8 mil!!
When will he be able to cope with premier league, 2/ 3 years time? we need established strikers now. All this talk about midfield player bids, why do we need Parker? Get a good striker!! Forget a sixteen year old, splash out, take a risk and spend a decent bit of money on a decent striker and send out a message to fans, our players (Modric) and other clubs that we are serious in obtaining top four. Otherwise we will slip into mid table. Did Levy learn nothing from the last transfer window?

What happened to our bid for Connor Wickam? Anyway I wish we would sign somebody but I am peed off with the competition for every player we bid for.

If we were the only team bidding for a player, then that might mean that he's ****, TMT!

Super, maybe we can nurture him, pay him, train him and then sell him for a pittance like we did Taarabt....

    We've got a 40% sell-on clause with Taarabt.
He said so himself in recent interviews.

Ashford? Caen play in the French top division so that's a stupid comparision to make.

I don't think that it was stupid, TMT.
We don't seem to have any active competition for Leandro, for example, but that's probably because we're linked with Internacional and we're going into a risky market.

Wickham's extremely high-profile, on the other hand.
    It boosted his price, though.

Croatia,I went to Caen once for a tennis competition and to look at the D day museum and it's a small town. I think coys meant the physical size of it.

Aye PNP but to go to Sunderland of all places? I bet he doesn't last there and thanks for the confidence.

I don't see how the size of the town is relevant? They play in the French top division and he played his part in keeping them up. I agree we need a proven striker as well but a 16yr old being looked at by other top sides is a good possible signing in my eyes.

Sunderland have a decent team overall, except up front, where they have extremely limited options.
It might be a very good move for Wickham.
If he can force his way into the first XI, alongside Asamoah Gyan, then he could progress quickly.

The only real possible problem is if they buy another striker and he gets left out a lot or if he starts badly and it affects his confidence.

If I remember correctly, I don't think we had any serious competition for Sandro, and he looks like a bargain now. That could be because of the tie-up with Internacional, which gives us first chance on any players they are prepared to sell.

As with Wickham, in a couple of years, this kid will either look the bargain of the century, or a complete waste of money.
