I'm a huge fan of Trappist beer (Chimay and Dubbel being my favs ) and the Abbey beers like Leffe (Bruin being my fav)- was pleasantly surprised when my missus brought me home some new types - 'Ruby' and 'Nectar' Leffe's - have to say the Nectar taste much better than the Blonde a great tasting beer not quite as strong as the Blondes and Bruins - a fiver for 2 bottles in Tesco - will update later on the 'Ruby' version <ok>

Any Belgian beer drinkers on here? If so what's your favourite tipple?
<cheers>

Leffe Ruby in those big 'goldfish bowl' glasses, on a hot day in the covered market Antibes, is the closest thing to heaven in the mortal world <ok>

Love the Leffe Bruin, not a fan of the blonde. I did see 6 different Leffe’s in France - Bruin, Blonde, Ruby, Honey, Royale and 9% never tried them but would be curious about what you think.

Love a good Belgian beer. Some of the cold easy drinkers like Leffe and Hoegarden are great on a sunny day.

Personal faves are some of the Tripels. Westmalle and Karmeliet are both great and definitely worth a try!

Try the Dilerium mate, even the bottle has a pink elephant on it, great stuff but very strong and deceptive, had some near escapes in Rotterdam , nearly ended up in the canal a few times, and I notice they sell it in the Isis now.
Definitely one for derby day.

Leffer brun for me, cracking stuff, there's a Belgian Beer bar out here in Perth, massively expensive gear
Mrs offered to buy us a drink in there, fancy fruity thing in a bottle with a cork for her and a half Leffe for me, she was gobsmacked, I stood back laughing to myself, came to $28, that's about 16 Quid, her face was a picture

Belgian beers very good but if you ever have the pleasure of being in "The House of the Trembling Madness" in York try a couple of their little Dutch beers.
There is a lovely 32% Nuclear Tactical Penguin ale and a pretty decent 70% ale which is the equivalent of sweet molten lava.
The landlord has no problem slapping your face to awaken you after you gave slithered to the floor.

If you are ever in Durham try the Head of Steam in Reform Place (an alley off North Road between Yates's and Wetherspoons). They do nearly all the beers mentioned above, plus Chouffe and Timmermans fruit beers (they do an apple beer that tastes like liquid apple pie) they've even got one of the Chimays on draught at the moment plus a few American craft beers as well. Not cheap, but you can make up for that with very good pizza for £3.95 (12") Mon - Thurs 4 - 7:30pm
