As we step into the EPL, we will see an increase in our media coverage nationally. I have noticed in the past that all Welsh Peeps are often referred to as Taffs! I for one, have hated that term, ever since the time I found out there was a River Taff in Cardiff. I was about nine! I have spent much of my adult life educating my friends from all over the UK that People from Swansea are Jacks and People from Cardiff are Taffs! Mostly during my time in the Forces and when living in Scotland....I like to think I've spread the word! However I've spent most of my adult life living away from home and only recently returned. So what do other Jacks think? Does it matter? Should we stop calling the scum, scum; and start calling them Taff Scum? Incidently, I think the term Taff came from a war film called Tiger Bay, set in Cardiff's Tiger Bay (Obviously). I'm no expert though!
The QPR bigots like to call us Taffs when we invade their board. But tis okay, because it isn't giving us a bad name lol.
Well my English mates call me Taff , and I am on other forums with Taff in the username, so it doesn't really bother me to be honest, if they started calling me tawe now I would think that would strange. Some of my Finnish mates call me lambslammer its bit rich really as they like biting the balls off reindeers lol bloody outlanders !
Lol, maybe your right, its probably just me, but you'll love this......If any of my army mates called me Taff I'd make them call me Tawe!! Haha, think I need my head seen eh! I'd say do I look like a F****ing Cardiff River! I dont know why, I've just always been insulted by it! Off to take my pills now
i was proud to be called taff during my time in the service and anyone male or female got the name taff, the name is taken from the river taff and is just the same as scouse, brum etc. instead of cities like the last two i mentioned the country as a whole gets the nick name. within wales we have our own names for different parts like jacks,Gog's,saucepans etc......be proud if someone calls you taff....

3jacks its the premier league not the english premier league, and i always thought it was sheep shaggers not sheep shearers, any one else got an opinion?
Danygraig, I agree "Its the Premier league", However I've spent a lot of my life in Scotland and up there, there is only one "premier league". I suppose to the untravelled, they call it the SPL...But to me (and ALL my Scottish friends) there is only one Premier League and then there is the EPL......Hard to get it out of my system soz..... but throughout my years up there, there was always a Welsh flag flying, and it had written on it....." Inverness Jacks".... Not "Inverness Taffs"! Cause, I MADE IT CLEAR, that in Swansea, we are Jacks! and in Cardiff they are Taff's......and my Scottish mates loved that, and now have a distaste for Cardiff Taffs!....In Scotland, most think Edinburgh is an English fort, and Glasgow is a Celtic City.....I always said Swansea is like Glasgow and Cardiff like the English Fort, maybe I'm wrong! But I aint no Cardiff Taff!
aberdude, nice video, but to be honest the Tawe is much nicer! You ever been to the weir in Morriston, just above the old 600?
No we aren't all Taffs of course, Taffs are people from Rhondda, Cynon Valley, Pontypridd, Caerphilly and possibly North Cardiff. It's like calling all Londoners Cockneys. And yes having been brought up in the area from the age of 6 I would be mortally offended to be considered a Taff.
I don't really care what people call us, in Ibiza you'd be astounded by the amount of Europeans on holiday who've never heard of Wales! It is a bit like calling all Londoners Cockneys I guess though.
Spot on hacker. Calling all people from Wales Taffs just shows the ignorance of the people using the term. Call Londoners Cockneys also shows an amazing amount of ignorance. I for one don't think Cardiff or Cardiff people are scum at all. Most Cardiff people I've met are ok. We may have the better football team (at the moment), but they certainly have the better city centre. Perhaps we should get together and swap ideas. We could teach them football in return for them showing us how to build a vibrant city.
Fairly easy really... get a ****load of EU and Assembly funding for regeneration! Cardiff was one of the fastest growing cities (and might well still be!) for the last 10 years or so, but thankfully the development is starting to spread out now. They clearly decided Wales needed a "European City" and fair play to them for achieving it, but now is the time for the rest of Wales to benefit, and by that I mean the valleys more than Swansea. By god they need help.
I don't agree. If you gave £millions to Swansea council they would still f**k it up. In fact, £millions have already been spent, and the place has got worse.
Fully agree. Swansea needs some investment but take it from me it's practically futuristic compared to most areas north of the M4. The valleys have already produced at least two full generations of kids who have almost zero ambition up there because they just can not see a future. I was one of the lucky ones to know there was something better and when Swansea is what showed me that you begin to realise the extent of the problem.
