The Guardian: The new order is just like the old order, the older order, and the order before that...
I like the Guardian too. And DTLW, you left one of my favourite authors Jo Nesbo off your Norwegian list.
The Daily Mail and Express are horrible, horrible newspapers. Don't know where you get the impression that the Guardian is of that ilk. It's about as liberal a newspaper as it is possible to have. If I bought a newspaper it would certainly be The Grauniad.
I dislike the Guardian because they publish crap articles like this: http://www.theguardian.com/books/20...t-hunger-games-the-giver-divergent?CMP=twt_gu http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/jul/22/thomas-the-tank-engine-children-parents Every little bloody thing is some neo-liberal classist right-wing conspiracy. The Daily Mail may blame all of Britain's ills on immigrants and Europe, but the Guardian's obsession with class and 'left-wing' and 'right-wing' doesn't make it much better. The writers proclaim themselves as liberal progressive types, but are complete hypocrites because their progressiveness apparently translates into controlling what their kids watch or read because they don't agree with the supposed right-wing conspiracy within.
Lefties hate the Daily Mail, righties hate the Guardian. What amuses me is the right say the BBC is too left wing and the left say it's too right wing!
I will agree that the Guardian is centre-left politically, but then all newsppaers have to nail their political colours to some mast. However, you will see all articles in the Guardian. They give their writers a broad church to scribe within. It will allow a space for all types, as a democratic country will too. It certainly won't take a controversial subject and beat the hell out of it so that the reader is instantly antagonised by it, possibly frightened by it, and certainly wanting it to be sent back the way it came from. That's not a civilsed way to behave. In fact, it's a comic book way to behave. Thankfully, the Guardian, on the whole doesn't treat its readers to comic book writing, like the tabloids. Mind you, being a person who likes to make a smaller impact on the environment, I don't buy newspapers anyway, if I just want to read the news. There are plenty of respectable news websites around.
Excellent, PL! Particularly liked the furore over Thomas The Tank Engine What world do these dreary obsessives inhabit?
****ing Sturridge is all I can say. What a game. 100% pass completion in the opposition half...........from his one and only pass. Sterling did play well however.............similar to the Beckham to Owen period under Eriksen he only looked for Sturridge. Not many shots off target for Sturridge though......because the third player he tried to go past always took it off him after ignoring his teammates in better positions. And yet again Wilshere 'The future of England' tried to run through people, fall over, pass to the opposition and generally be there just to make the numbers up. I know we have had some injuries and the old guard has gone but that was a shocking display for England no matter how cynical about the team you are. Even if you question who is selected the team that was put out tonight should be doing better than we saw. Roy needs to grow a pair and tell Sturridge if he doesn't stop being so selfish then he is out. Would rather Rooney up top with Welbeck on the left.
I'm gonna let you all in on a secret, all papers have a political stance and are biased, your favourite newspaper will match your own opinions! Mind blown I know
Now c'mon PL, it's just those memories of last years pink Pompey strip haunting you As to the game last night, sheesh, pretty awful. For the (insert large No here) game in a row we looked better when Rooney went off.
Oh come guys and gals.....it was a bloody awful game...no doubt about it. I doesn't matter which paper you read in this case they are all united....England were rubbish.........No politics needed!
Norway were very poor...England beat them all over the pitch apart from where it really mattered. They looked like the League 1 team that with a bit of luck could have won against Man City. We know it's hard to beat teams like that...they defend, defend. Our only chance would have been to lure them up the pitch and catch them on the break. England are not a good side, but should have won by 2-3 last night on the quality on the pitch. I think we will probably scrape to qualification, but where are the star players that all good teams need.
Well, I can't stand Rooney when he plays for England. He rarely has a good game although I'm not doubting that he cares about England. Two comments above mention that he lacks discipline in any positional sense (although I'm sure this is because he thinks he can do better than anyone else) and that we always look better after he has gone off. Both spot on in my opinion.
Fair comment that he lacks discipline, but this reflects his desperation to do well for the team. I think he would have had a better career (though don't forget he has scored a lot of England goals) if he didn't feel the need to go hunting and was surrounded by players he trusted. I don't watch United a lot, does he play like this for them?
