The dark cloud of TF leaving ... No worries here he is a mouth piece and my guess is that there would be a queue of money waiting to buy us It's West London simple as that The current value of PR for QPR is right up there IMO
As an oldish person I just can't see how we're naturally a Premier League club, historically we were an old Third Division regular who went straight through to a disastrous season in the top flight. Then we had a few good seasons and even a second place but realistically we're a top six Championship club with a stadium that's crippling our future. If we're not very careful we are risking big time and a long period in League 1 could await us. Where's the new training ground for starters let alone the stadium?
In the inaugural premiership season Chelski averaged 18k http://www.european-football-statistics.co.uk/attnclub/chls.htm A new stadium, investment, and good management would breed success. The challenge would be to maintain it on a consistent basis.
You are a real ray of sunshine!! We had more than a few good seasons. We were top London club for several seasons in a row.
I wonder if Mittal will splash the cash if we were to get to a certain level. Or perhaps he's waiting for the steel contract for the new stadium if it ever happens.
One good thing about ticket sales is it's easy to project how much revenue your gonna get. Helps when financing deals with banks and the likes being able to show guaranteed income. I follow and totally agree with the point you make but I just think you might have put them a little too far down the scale, if you get my meaning.
A great OP RTID and some good replies. One thing that seems to be overlooked with regards to the new stadium, is the spin off income. By that i mean merchandising, food, drinks, hospitality etc. I dont remember going to a game and spending much less than 100 quid really. By the time i'd had a few beers in the pub or Blue & White bar, wandered around the club shop (soon to be superstore i hope), got my program, had some food, half time drinks etc...i easily spend that. Couple that with the potential of 40K wanting shirts etc instead of 18k & the income could easily exceed the ticket sales. With regards to the OP, Id be hoping in the given time frame of 7 years, that 2 should be the minimum. Hopefully looking & actively trying to progress onto 3. This isnt me/us being arrogant but rather where we should realistically set our target/ambition level. Even if we do go down this season, we have a decent younger squad that is going to get better together, and as long as we can hang onto them, then i'd expect promotion. Having a 40k ground in West London is a massive draw card for players and fans alike. It will and can only help our development. We're always going to be in the papers because its jst what we do !! Always a drama at HQ so lets use the advertising. We currently cant compete with finances but with our manager and owners we get a lot more exposure than bigger Prem clubs. For example Leicester won at a trot last year and you hardly see anything about them. Its all going to change, so lets get on board and enjoy the ride, come what my
There is a bigger plot I think. London is world capital. They (include the Mitalls) will have a ferocious local support (us) to back them building a new Canary Wharf for cheap in West London. This was always the bigger plan. This better than buying an island like the baddies in a JAmes Bond movie - real rich people buy cities and then more cash.
Makes a lot of sense and, pleasingly for us, put us right in the heart of something very successful for the long term.
I think one things clear from last nights launch of the consultation for the stadium, the club aren't sitting on their laurels. Plus we already have the backing from all the authorities concerned, that is usually the biggest stumbling block with an building project. The next is winning over the locals, but land in question doesn't exactly have many locals to complain, it's a s**t hole of 3 sides and with 20,000 dead people on the other. There is the small matter of Car Giant, but a compulsory purchase order will sort them out very quickly. Also their business can be run from any bit of land. I would hazard a guess that the stadium is the only reason Amit and Mittal are still involved with the club, a project of this size is worth billions. I'm sure if Tony was to pull out Mittal would snap us up, just as he tried to do with Tango and Cash wanted to pull the plug. Another factor that will also have the Mittal's interested in the project and raising the clubs profile is the launching of the Indian football league, which I would imagine Mittal is playing a very big part. We've already shown an interest in starting a team with strong associations to Rangers and I'm sure it would help those purposes with Mittal associated with a English Premiership side. The board also know that the project must happen sooner rather than later, the charm offensive has started and I'd expect them to try and keep to the 3 year plan of getting the stadium built. With HS2 guaranteed to go ahead now with the backing from all political parties, this makes the project as a whole almost certain to go ahead, especially with it being the darling project of Boris Johnson who's fully behind our side of things. The club are asking for our help and we should all provide as best we can. Have a look at the site that's been set up by the club, it shows good insight into the project. http://www.new-queens-park.co.uk/ http://www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/qpr-step-up-pursuit-of-40000-capacity-stadium-by-revealing-old-oak-consultation-plans-wls-football
As another point, the biggest stumbling block is Car Giant, but notice that the stadium is due to be built on land that isn't owned by Car Giant. The stadium was to spearhead the project, with other parts taking up to 20 years, so we could build while Car Giant is still in it's present location and let the authorities deal with them in order for the rest of the project to progress.
Have to agree. ".. would include thousands of new homes and a 40,000-capacity stadium" Stadium is the sweetener for building homes. Once finished TF will probably be gone.
TF is with us for the prestige and naming rights for his Airline. He's massive in Asia and owning a Premiership team gives him kudos. He'll stay as long as he can, it's cheap advertising. Mittal might pull out once the projects completed? But who knows what will happen with the Indian football league and our association with it.
Pubs are die-ing mate. Wont be many left soon anyway. the increased prices and smoking bans will kill them all off shortly. Who wants to drink in a place that stinks of beer and peoples BO.? a couple of decent restaurants in and around the new ground and that should do. i went to a CL match at the Emerates (brother won tickets) and i didnt even have to worry about looking for food or beers. it was all there withing the stadium. Why would i go to some crappy run down pub 20 mins walk away....?
