Piece on Liam Moore, and England. http://www.thefa.com//news/england/...moore-enjoying-international-challenge-020914 Really think this kid has the potential to make the full squad sooner or later.
He's probably been our best player so far this season, I think we may have a job on our hands to keep him come January. But agreed, considering just a few decent performances seems to get you noticed for England these days (John Stones is starting tonight after playing 20-odd games for Everton), you'd expect at the rate he's going that Hodgson will come calling sooner rather than later.
I think hes signed up for a fair while yet. Pearson won't sell promising (and already showing it) youth. Morgan has been getting more praise than he has at the moment, lets hope he can take some headlines to keep interest low. We aren't in any desperate need to sell anyone after a couple of years of sensible spending under Pearson. No club is likely to meet our valuation of him. Even if a club did come in for him i doubt he'd want to move, hes one of our own! Hes got plenty of years to play yet, hes not going to need to move for the megabucks. My guess would be he'd only move to get into the England setup.
If Liam had broken into the first team of any of Man Utd, City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool or Everton and played as he has against others of that list in the first 3 games this season he would already be in the full England squad ... and that, in a nutshell is the real problem with the England set-up ... it's often all about who you are plying for rather than the way you are playing or your suitability for 'the team' ... and before people think I'm being too 'Leicester centric' my prime example would be Tom Huddlestone ... had a cracking last season, is a very different type of midfield player to most of what we have ... arguably the best passer around and very comfortable on the ball ... on the face of it would be very suited to the international game ... yet Woy prefers to bring on James Milner for the last 20 mins of a friendly with Switzerland ... what on earth did that tell him other than confirming that ANY England side will probably play better without his new captain at this point in time ...
Agreed ... but you have to do far more to prove yourself than if you play for the ones I mentioned ...
You can add Curtis Davies to that list too, can remember the Hull fans saying he should have been a dead cert for an England call up in the summer.
I would have agreed - at that time he was outstanding ... not been quite as good this season so far IMHO - but for me it should always be the case that England squads are selected from'in-form' players ...
England will never select players who are in form. Players are picked on reputation and reputation alone!!
It cant be ENTIRELY form as you have to build up partnerships at the back and things but yes form should be far, far more important than it appears to be at the moment.
Not sure I agree there ed ... sticking to a 'partnership' of two out of form players cannot be better than playing two in form players surely? ....
No i agree that form is crucial but cannot be ENTIRELY dependent - for example at CB you cannot keep changing, i think you need to try and develop partnerships between around 3 key players and pick the form 2 of them.
