Cabella better than Marveaux? I'm not so sure. Perez can't be worse than Shola

either way, the squad is either equal or worse than last years post-Cabaye team, no real improvement.

And our form on that basis is relegation fodder, absolutely no question about it.

Weaker.

I'd just like to add I did say this more than a month ago and was ridiculed by some.

Don't worry, I have it from someone who is virtually never wrong that we are finishing 11th, nowhere near the relegation zone.

Loic Remy vs Emmanuel Riviere
Shola Ameobi vs Ayoze Perez - Shola of last season was nowhere near as good as Perez
Luuk De Jong vs Facundo Ferreyra - haven't seen enough to compare yet (as bad as LDJ was)
Hatem Ben Arfa vs Siem De Jong
Mathieu Debuchy vs Daryl Janmaat - I'd have them as like for like
Dan Gosling vs Jack Colback
Sylvain Marveaux vs Remy Cabella
Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa vs no-one

not really comparable:

gone: James Tavernier
gone: Romain Amalfitano

Karl Darlow = on loan til 2015-16
Jamaal Lascelles = on loan til 2015-16

The big unknown for me is how the youngsters will step up to determine what squad strength is like. Clearly we have at least one promising youngster in Aarons. I have a feeling we will have seen enough to know about at least one or two of the young centre-backs before the season is out.

Aarons? Looked good so far.

Overall, too early to tell. I think we have more physical strength and fitness this season compared to last.

Remy was lightweight, Ben Arfa is injury prone, Tiote Cabaye kept missing games due to booking and injuries. Hopefully we'll have a more stable team between De Jong, Sissoko and the Ginger Pirlo. If the Gouf and Riviere can find some goals... along with Chucky and Aarons, and Perez has looked tidy to me. Certainly much more energy in this team from the bench to make an impect compared to last season, where the subs were predictably Anita and Ameobis. If we now have Gouf/Chucky And Perez on the bench at least there's so real threat coming on. Shame about Remy for sure, but he's flushing his career down the ****ter, much like Ba. Remy was the closest I've seen to a Thierry Henry player I've seen in a while, I can't believe Wenger just let him go to Chelsea.

I really don't get why everyones is on such a downer lately. You gotta wonder. No ones outplayed us so far. We just leaked a bunch of stupid goals on the counter. To me that's a quesiton of concentration at the back. Hopefully the back four got a kick up the ass this week and they have a couple of extra days to work on some attacking moves.

Aarons has already done more in a Newcastle shirt than Marveaux ever did! Or at least Marveaux was allowed to do.

Plus I fail to see how Ben Arfa can be rated higher than Siem De Jong. Despite my gloomy outlook I really think Siem will be a pivotal player, offering more influence than Cabaye dare I say it. Captain if he sticks around.
He's been the main man at a famous, prestigious club in Ajax and has done the business against the best teams in the Champions League, so it really was a coup getting him.

Cabella for me is far more like a Ben Arfa replacement so I therefore worry that his NUFC career will rapidly go the same way. Flashes of genius, most of the time a liability – ultimately falling out with Pardew...

Post Cabaye... Remy played less effectively and seemed to be suspended, injured or pretending to be injured for much of the time. I'd say it's too early to judge our new players so impossible to say with certainty what the case is but would hazard a guess that we are stronger than the post Cabaye period at least.

True enough. I'd feel lonely otherwise.

This site is like a nice warm cuddle to me. I get to have offend people, have people take the piss out of me, all of the things I love about about social interaction. Yesterday I was a revolutionary, today I'll be dictator. Its all good.
