Morning (or evening for you) Jakarta!
Always rated Rosler. He'd fit in very well with things at SJP I reckon.

    David Moyes?

I wonder if Ashley might go for a young, French manager, as that seems to be the general idea behind a lot of your signings?
Helena Costa seems unlikely, so perhaps Galtier from St. Etienne?
I have a feeling that you'd go for someone fairly high-profile, though.

Frank De Boer or, more likely, Peter Beardsley. I struggle to see Ashley breaking this mould of only employing people from his stupidly small circle of trust, hence why I'd put money on Beardo.

Outsiders, Tony Pulis is probably a good shout as well. Moyes too.

Evening to you too ACS. You're right -almost going home time now. Rest of staff have gone so can catch up with what's going on on the forum.

Would love to see us go for a progressive young manager (there must be a few more Pochettinos out there) but seem to remember similar feelings early on last season and then we started winning a few games and the anti-Pardew feelings died out until after Christmas. Trouble is you want the team to win but know that every time they do it means his stay gets extended.

Newsflash for ya mate....we're still on that awful run! 2 wins from our last 10 games at the end of last season, followed by 0 wins from 3 this season.

I'm predicting a very hostile atmosphere at SJP when hull come to town.

Commented on another thread that it will either be Moyes or Pulis, I can't see past these two if we're bringing somebody in.

Pulis is far far more likely though, he would work well under our ownership system.

This thread goes to show its a lot easier to get a majority wanting someone out than it is to get a majority wanting someone in.

I'd love to be wrong, but I really don't see us attracting any big names. Whoever joined would have to agree to work under the same conditions as Pardew, which also means following the company line in press conferences and interviews. Before long they would be saying things that annoyed the fans just as much as Pardew does.

Rule out any manager who genuinely believes in themselves and has sporting ambition. They will not work under Ashley. It will be someone who needs the job more than toon need them. Someone to whom it may be there last - or only chance - of managing in the PL. Take your pick from George Burley, Glen Hoddle, Lawrie Sanchez, Paul Jewel, Les Reed, Iain Dowie, Malky Mackay, Nigel Atkins, Brian McDermott, Dave Bassett, Danny Wilson, Owen Coyle e.t.c.

In order to 'get it right', Pardew needs someone who is:

    - Grateful for the opportunity
    - Affiliate with the area/team somehow

Anything else - experience, ability - is secondary. He still needs a shield, but one the baying crowd won't throw quite so much cr@p at. He also needs someone who will be forgiven the odd faux pas, the odd bad performance, purely on who they are. That's one of the biggest difference with the demanding Geordie public. No-one once pointed a finger at Shearer as interim boss, it was all Kinnear's fault. If you had a Beardsley, Ginola or maybe even Bruce in charge, the public might be like "well, he's one of us, he MUST be trying his best". With Pardew, even though it's 99.9% likely he's trying, the public assumes the stance that he's in Ashley's Satanic Cult, part of the problem not solution, etc.

It's an obvious, basic, cheap and effective fix. It boggles the mind why Ashley hasn't done it. The Toon Army would take 12th under Beardsley far more amicably than 10th under Pardew. Or am I wrong?

Bruce would walk across broken glass to come to us, even with Fat Ash in charge.

Personally, I think we are tailor made for Moyes. I think the Utd job was one he couldnt turn down however it seems to have destroyed his reputation.

He worked wonders at Everton on a similarly restricted regime. They were relegation battlers every year and within 10 years he had them consistantly top 6 and playing decent football. Only thing missing was a cup although they came close.

We are not going to break the stranglehold of the big clubs without MASSIVE investment which wont happen. But Moyes could build us like he did Everton and must be chomping at the bit to rebuild hos reputation!

For me, he is the outstanding candidate should Pardew go.

I would naturally think moyes however I heard some not so complimentary words about his time at everton from one of their development coaches saying that he held back the progress of some outstanding young players that are now getting a proper chance under Martinez who by the way I would love as our manager

Moyes football is no better than Pardew's so i'd have to question the sanity of such an appointment. I think the fans would be on him in no time. Again I just can't understand the reluctance to go for a more modern young manager in the Rosler or Howe mould. Someone who'd bring a bit of attractive football and fire in the belly. Everton were turgid at times under Moyes.

I agree here, it would be pointless, costly and possibly suicidal to pick Moyes. He'd not exactly be greeted with open arms and let's be clear that one of the key problems is the lack of identification from the fans with the manager. We either have to go sexy (Galtier), or local (Beardsley/Ginola/Bruce).
