Thanks for everything Jos, one of the nicest guys you could ever meet. Sadly, the PL was a step to far, but won't forget his contribution in the Championship
A big thank you to Jos Hooiveld. Not just for his role in returning us to the top flight with his on-pitch actions, but for everything he does behind the scenes and the character that he is was in our dressing room. Speak to anyone who knows about Saints and they'll speak well of Jos. Cheers Jos, and all the best to you big man.
Was a big part of our rise and better than Fonte for most of the Championship season. Fonte has developed and grown with the pace of the PL, sadly Jos didn't. Appreciate the contributions he made, will be missed in the dressing room as well for sure.
Thank you Jos great player for us in the Championship season and by all accounts a great guy off it, all the best mate. 'he only scores on a tuesday'
Official Statement from Southampton Football Club: "Hooiveld joined Southampton on transfer deadline day in August 2011, and went on to play a crucial role in the side’s promotion to the Premier League. The Dutchman made 41 appearances during his first season at St Mary’s. Hooiveld scored some crucial goals in that first year on the south coast, including in midweek wins over West Ham, Hull City and Peterborough. A hugely popular member of the dressing room, Jos played 28 times the following season, including in memorable home victories over Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea. Opportunities were limited for Hooiveld last season and, with his chances looking similarly restricted in the new campaign, he now moves on to join the Canaries for the current campaign. Southampton Football Club would like to place on record its sincere gratitude for the part Jos played in the team’s growth over the past three years, and pay tribute to the professionalism he has shown during his time at St Mary’s. Everybody connected with the club wishes Jos the very best for the future."
Really is telling what the club writes in their farewell statements. Rickie and Jos get heartfelt goodbyes. Lallana gets a few lines.
He's wholehearted for sure, and will be a great influence in the dressing room. A good Championship level defender and a lovely guy too.
