Seen some comments on twitter saying huntelaar doesn't want to come to us. On the other hand I've also seen comments saying he has had a private medical and will be announced later tonight... I'm going to wait until the deadline passes to decide how I feel about things... Lol
The Huntelaar deal is like Schrodinger's Cat. For us on the outside, it is both a done deal and a wild rumour in equal measure.
I am so effing annoyed. I support wenger and have yet to see a name put forward who could compete with the restrictions we've had. BUT this window has left us very poorly equipped to build on a strong campaign from last season. We've now got only 1 untested 19 year old to cover rb and cb instead of our captain and Belgium international (who also covered lb) and a young rb. We've lost falcao to a team not even in Europe (or the league cup) and who don't even need a striker. We could have bid for remy, cavani and countless others who would have been stronger than sanogo (keeping the pressure off sanogo until he improves). We haven't signed a dm when if we'd signed cavarlho, falcao and a good replacement cb then we'd been a strong contender for the league. Now well do well for 4th. Seems the same as 2007 (or was it 08?) when if we'd made a signing or two we'd have won the league. Grr!!!!
I would choose Wellbeck over Balotelli or Remy. I dont rate Remy and I think Balo is just a liability.
Well that's not really true. He went to you because he wanted to live in London.! Not for any love for the club. Very good player but I don't think we were ever in with a shout to be honest.
Huntelarr would be awesome mind you. He is arguably the sharpest striker in the box around at the moment (him or Falcao) but he's also a big lump and can hold the ball up well. Huntealaar would be our first choice striker without doubt. I'm very happy with either Wellbeck or Huntelarr. Just want to see a Centreback (Nastisic?) and hopefully a DM come in also. Saying all that nobody's been finalised yet. So lets just keep our fingers crossed.
You could use the argument that Remy is 27 and is as good as he'll ever be whilst Danny is 23 and is yet to realise his full potential.
Since I don't think any of them are the needed quality to secure the CF position in a team that challenges for the title (which was what we were looking before Giroud even got injured), if I had to choose I'd have taken Remy on less, and invest in a real world class player next time around (HA HA).
So all the stuff about Wenger convincing him in Rio was rubbish then. Nah, it's because he wanted to move to London lol.
Given the possible alternatives... No. There is no dressing up this move other than a desperate, lastminute.com, ill planned screw up. £16m?! If we care that little about value and spending money where it should be spent, why not just have a blowout on someone.
It's been pointed out on the BBC that Welbeck is the only Mancunian left in the Manchester United squad. He leaves and there's not a single Manchester lad in there.
So given that there is an hour of the window left and there were no other strikers anywhere close to a deal with us, you'd rather we hadn't signed Welbeck ? Remember we were about to go into this season with just Giroud and Sanogo.
