Why is Callum McMannaman still a Championship player? He could do a great job for a team like West Ham or Hull.
So Welbeck was at Arsenal having medical. But Arsenal now deny that? Strange... Blind confirmed at United from Ajax's end apparently. Think he's actually their best signing value for money. Can play LB or CM (sort of a better Gareth Barry).
I think United will miss Welbeck. Not because he's a top player, but because he gives them what the other players need; a willing runner, someone who goes down the channels, holds the ball up, creates space for others and presses from the front. The kind of player Fergie had to compliment the more skillful players. I think he gets a lot of unfair stick tbh and they'll be left with a bunch of over paid, high ego 'world class' players who won't work hard enough. Obviously this makes me happy. Whoever he goes to will get a decent player, but the reported 18mill is excessive... On another note, it's quite nice having transfer deadline day without worrying about filling crucial gaps in our squad. It might not be a title winning squad right now, but it's better than last year and good enough to secure top four again which is key for us right now. A good summer for us imo.
Said a few days ago that Welbeck actually offers Untied something they didn't have (until Di Maria signed) which is pace. He might not be brilliant but he stretches teams with his pace in the same way our attack does. Without that pace upfront, team can have a high line knowing Rooney/RVP won't be running in behind them. I guess with Di Maria, LVG feels he isnt' needed anymore, but I think he'd do a team chasing Europe well (Spurs/Everton)
We dont have a spot for him but if he was a Liverpool player I'd be happy to have him in the squad. Bring him off the bench for Sterling or Sturridge in games like yesterdays when we got the third goal and he will help us control and see out the rest of the game comfortably. He presses, closes down, tracks back, marks, holds the ball up and gives very useful energy. Kind of like Joe Allen in the front three. Ricky Lambert is a more physical less energetic version.
I am a genuine fan of Welbeck. He had a solid world cup. He is a pest to opponents and allows team mates freedom.
I'd have Welbeck, but I wouldn't buy him at anywhere close to what United are asking. Doesn't his contract run out next summer?
Borini asking for £90,000 a week QPR offering £58,000 max. Deals broken down. Jeez,is that what were paying him?? Source :Five live
Makes me wonder about the Stoke/Assaidi deal as well. The sticking point was his wage demands, does that mean Stoke couldn't afford his current wage (or did he want a large increase?). If it's the former, does that mean we're now paying some of his wages while he's on loan?
Alan smith talking on SSN as though Welbeck would be the signing of the transfer window now he's linked with arsenal. Tosser!
