Deffo 2, but I reckon 3. We know about Alvarez, een though it hasn't been released there's been a pic with the shirt, so we know they are holding back for a double at least. I reckon there might be one in one out up front, no info, just a feeling.
Gone with 4, A CB, CB/LB,Alvaraz,and a CF/WG(doubt it's Borini now). Gus wants 4, but if any players leave who were in the plans (so not counting Greham, Cabral, diakite and Roberge) then I think we'll bring an extra player in for everyone that leaves
Including Alvarez it'll be 4. Richards will come on loan and so will Borini. A permanent signing of van Dijk, from Celtic, will be the 4th.
Thought better put my money on the 5 since I put it out there Alvarez Alderweireld Richards Borini Striker....this one is the Gus 'surprise' Fletcher goes to Celtic. You stay in the Premier League by scoring goals. If ever the lesson was learnt from last season this is it. I don't think we will get enough goals from Altidore, Fletcher, Wickham. Even bring in Borini we would need more fire power. Interesting next 24 hours...
I'll go: Roberge out Richards Rolando Alvarez Borini The ace up Gus' sleeve would be another striker, with Fletcher or Connor going out. I'd be all for that, particularly Fletcher
Some business that would be. The surprise striker (and I also have a feeling this could happen...) could be Abel Hernandez, who Gus stated publicly an interest earlier in summer, and we were told was signing for Hull, but he didn't. Palermo have just kicked off their first game of the season, and I've checked, not in the squad. He's going somewhere tomorrow, that's certain. Hull more or less announced it, then they went out of Europe and it hasn't happened, Gus made it clear he wants a Uruguayan or 2 regardless. Gus looked like a comfortable man when asked on transfers after Brum, and that makes me think he knows stuff is gonna happen.
Trouble is everybody is looking for more fire power and the market is a sellers dream. It is more cost effective to strengthen the team in other areas to give more opportunities to our front men to start scoring, they have shown that they can at times, admittedly not often enough of late.
I think most of the work has been done as with Borini. It's more a case of the domino stack starting to tumble from the top. Clubs like Man Utd have to get the panic buys, off their books, and heads will roll. What on earth will they do with the likes of Fellaini who cost them £27.5m plus daft wages?
Gus was a very good striker. I think he knows the limitations he is working with. Realistically how many goals are the current strikers going to get over this season. I will go for Altidore 4, Fletcher 5 and Wickham 9. Hence the need for the surprise. If we get Hernandez....great!
Totally understand where you are coming from. I just don't think that even Ellis Short wants to gamble on having a similar season to the last one where we are just hanging on. Don't think Gus would have signed up for another two years on that basis. The cost of another striker would be or should be self financing in terms of giving us mid table security. If we end up in the bottom three because we can't score enough goals we are committing financial suicide. I know these guys don't come cheap but I feel it is a rote we have to go. Either way we will all be a lot wiser by tomorrow night...
