ON THIS DAY IN 2006... ROY KEANE COMPLETES SIX SIGNINGS - GRAHAM KAVANAGH, DWIGHT YORKE, DAVID CONNOLLY, STAN VARGA, LIAM MILLER AND ROSS WALLACE - JUST MINUTES BFORE THE TRANSFER WINDOW CLOSES. Is that the record number of signings in one day by the club? On a side note, today in 2010, Asamoah Gyan arrived. for 13million quid... Could do with Poyet getting a striker in like.
Reckon : Diakete Roberge Cabral Graham Fletcher Out Van djik Alvarez Richards Borini Welbeck In + a surprise I'll be completely wrong like
I'd be absolutely gobsmacked if that happened but at the same time, over the moon and it would represent an outstanding transfer window.
That many new faces so late smakcs of desperation. I'd like to think Poyet and Cong are a bit more considered than that.
Feels like waiting around to be someone's 5th choice team, otherwise we would have wrapped this up weeks ago. Our season hinges on these two days. Shame we can't convince our targets to sign.
There's nothing more exciting though than deadline day and your club being really active. I've not got a problem with lots of faces so long as they are right for the team its when you get faces in for the sake of it to boost numbers a la Keane. As you say depends of borini what happens, but I think whether its a lot or nothing it will be for the right reasons. Something we haven't trwally got right.
When it gets to this stage of the transfer window it really is a throw of the dice. Maybe this is a part of the strategy to see what sort of 'deals' become available as certainly some of the top teams like Man Utd and Man City seem to want to unload a few players. If my memory serves me correct didn't we get a good deal on Turner from Hull at the last moment as Ellis decided to pay cash for him? If this is the strategy then Ellis has some 'nuts' on him.......hope Gus gets the players he needs because I don't think we are very far away from being a very good team.
