Just got in from the game, only to notice that no one did a match day thread ! How about a 'Post Match' thread instead ? We didn't deserve to win, to be honest, but neither did Newport. We did not perform on the day, but Newport were chopping our players down left, right and centre. The referee was poor, and seemed to lose control of the game. If he had red carded one of their players in the first half hour it might have calmed them down a bit. A good many of our players seemed off their form, against a poor team who basically were there for the taking. A few nice moves with slick passing between Jed Wallace and Craig Westcarr in the first half were the only thing memorable about our performance. Final question, why so many police attending the game - especially Welsh police ? Are their fans that renowned for being trouble makers ? Rant over
Didn't make today as was driving back from Cornwall.....had a feeling we'd struggle against them tbh. That said Woop your write up suggests we weren't really at our best. A very small minority of Newport fans did allegedly have a bit of a reputation in the Conf a few years back but I can say having been there a couple of times the people are friendly and decent sorts.
There was some trouble before the match and I saw broken glass outside the Milton Arms, but I don't know what happened. As for the match, Newport had done their homework and did a job on us. The ref was poor but was not the reason we lost. We lost because we were poor, second to the ball most of the time and never got hold of things in midfield. Hollands looked right out of sorts, slow and lethargic. Not a good day but it's still only August.
We had a few skirmishes with Newport when they used to play at Somerton Park. But anyone who was involved in that would be in their 50's now it was so long ago.
I heard on Twitter that there was an alcaration between Portsmouth and Newport games post game. Though that's all I heard really. One side getting 6 yellow cards is ridiculous, at least they'll be fined by the FA.
I blame myself. I always predict Pompey to lose in prediction games but this week I put us down for a win
At least I cheered up a bit today after reading that our Academy team thrashed Newport County's Academy side 5-2 in South Wales, with two goals each from Lewis Gill and Conor Chaplin, and the other from Kaleem Haitham. Their kids obviously haven't been coached yet in the art of cynical fouling like the senior side - they have got some work to do there to get them ready for the first team
JAMIE ASHDOWN ‏@jamie_ashdown Aug 30 What's going on with this Newport lot. Attacking kids and fans??
Say No To League 3 ‏@SayNo2League3 Aug 30 Obviously it's not all Newport fans but the minority today put their club to shame, hospitalising a 10 year old girl and one another fan What the actual ****?
