http://www.theguardian.com/football...elsea-southampton-champions-league?CMP=twt_gu Interesting interview with Bertrand talking about his motivation in his move to Southampton. How with past moves he thought that he could do well and get back to Chelsea, but he is not thinking that this time.
Interesting reading and seems to be a player who wants to play rather than sit on the bench......however the 'not thinking that this time' in my mind simply means that he used to think he would have a chance at Chelsea before and now he doesn't. More a case of if he does well at Southampton then maybe another 'big club' might buy him and pay him top wages...........like Liverpool or Spurs
Cynicism, eh! Who would expect that from a football fan? You may be right that in the long term he has come to Saints to reboot his career, but that will be fine as long as he does that by playing his best for us and by staying longer than one season (yes, Lovren, I am looking at you).
I thought he came over as quite grounded, given the club he's just come from and the life experiences he's already had. One minute he was a normal teenager hoping to make it at Gillingham, the next he's at Chelsea and his life is never going to be the same again. Reading the stuff about his family background, I got the impression his mum did a good job there. He might not forget his roots as quickly as most young men do when life throws fame and fortune at them at an early age. The fact he once did floor fitting with a friend's family firm also suggests he knows what proper hard graft is like. Came over as a young man with his feet as close to the ground as you can expect from someone who played in a CL final with Didier Drogba.
I've been quite impressed with him so far, I saw him play a lot when he was at Reading (other half is a Royals fan) and he didn't really look that special but he looks good for us so far.
As long as a player has all the tools, he can be a revelation at one club whilst being only okay at another. That is where the skill in recruiting players for your club's style comes in. We have had failures before in this area, but (apart from Taider) they seem to have picked well this window.
In reality a player doesn't need all the tools, just a coach that sees he has a tool or two that fits what that team needs. Pelle could be a good example of that. He may not have the same tool box as Rickie, but the coach thinks he has some tools that we want.
Pelle is turning into my favourite player - just as I used to love Guly. Can't help rooting for the player hounded by idiots in the stands.
Three PL games in, I think he's doing well. There is something about getting behind a player who gets stick that draws me too.
That's because Saints aswell as many other teams have a section of fans who think they can do better, commonly known as.......bellends
