Agger has proved himself as one of the most special footballers on the planet this week and has been great for this club. - please log in to view this image Liverpool have today confirmed that defender Daniel Agger has sealed a permanent return to his former team, Brondby. The 29-year-old - a two-club man - started his career with the Danish outfit, progressing through the youth ranks at the Brondby Stadion and spending a decade with the Superliga side. Agger's powerful defensive attributes, composure in possession and natural athleticism brought interest from teams around Europe and the Reds won the race for his signature in January 2006. During almost nine years with Liverpool, the centre-back made 232 appearances, scoring 14 goals and lifting one trophy, the 2012 Carling Cup, after starting the final against Cardiff City at Wembley. Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers worked with Agger for two full seasons after taking the reins at Anfield in the summer of 2012, and he paid tribute to the Dane for his attitude and character. The boss said: "We wish Daniel and his family well for the future. Good player, could have been an LFC great in the mould of Hyppia except for his injuries. Had a talent for timing a tackle but the injuries seem to have robbed him of that bit of pace to get in the right position to commit to the tackle. Scored some great goals as well as he has a terrific shot on him. I remember one game were he brought the ball out of defence and carried it to the edge of the opposition shot box before firing a cannon type shot to score. Can't remember who it was against, it was at Anfield 2 or 3 seasons ago. I am sure the younger element will remember it, when you get to my age the years mingle a lot.
No idea what he did to Rodgers, but he was patently frozen out by him. He's better than Bronby as well ffs. Odd move all round and a crap price for a good CB
West Ham. I'll try and find a video. His fitness issues. It sounds like Agger agreed, or even made the decision.
What a champ. Tear For me he was one of most pleasing defenders to watch on the ball. He might have carried on at a higher level than Brondby yes, but his comments suggest his body is letting him down too much for that. YNWA
Sad to see him go. Had the potential to be a brilliant CB but never really seemed to hot those levels. A very good player though who was unfortunately very injury prone. Seems a strange move but obviously wanted to go home and can't blame him for that one. Wish him the best of luck
Great player and I am really sad to see him leave. But the manner he has left in has made me proud to be a red. Returnef to his boyhood club when he could gave made a rival stronger and recieved more money. The guy is one of yhe best ball playing defenders ive seen in a red shirt and I hope he remains part of the lfc famiky for a long time. Ynwa
I don't see it like that at all, he's a good defender but made of glass and can never get a run of games going. As far as Brondby goes he may have wanted to go home and the club have maybe taken a hit on the transfer fee to grant his wish.
A lot of respect for Agger for this decision. He could've easily moved to another top team in all 4 of the big leagues in Europe but decided to sacrifice that chance and the wealth that would come with it to move home with his family and also show respect to Liverpool. He has been a fantastic servant and representative of the club, we will miss his character and attitude. Now time for others to step into his shoes and become one of the "leaders" of the squad.
Sounds like it was all done to the best for the player and our club. No need to treat him like crap just to get a few more quid and he takes his bow as a great professional and servant of our club. Cheers Agger!
The man is a legend. It matters not how many trophies he won or how many goals he scored his loyalty to the club is exemplary. I hope he has a good time back at Bromby and I will be glad to see him at Anfiel any time he cares to visit. Danny your 'tackle' on Torres will forever be remembered.
Very sorry to see a player that loves the club so much go but I do think its for the best for both parties. I wish him all the best in his new adventure, hopefully, the two clubs paths will cross so that he can get the send off he truly deserves
Nice too see the club showing respect for a loyal player. with Agger there is always the "if only" question of how good he could have been if his body could cope. Hope Brondby somehow make the last 16 in CL so we can gice Dan the reception at Anfield he deserves
Exactly this. Done it at a nominal fee as a gesture for his loyalty to the club. Sad to see him go but like reina his best days are behind him and he has had enormous fitness issues. And who is going to do the tattoos now?
