Let's keep it simple, if he's our best option then play him. If that means he burns up then let's get the best days out of him and sell him for a extortionate price allaboutliverpool
Hmmm, Not the best way to treat your players! Another problem with this is as we start to really on him more and more, if he starts to get injured every few months then that will disrupt the team instead of having a team able to cope with or without him. We have to be prudent in the long term as well as the short term IMO one of liverpools biggest oversights in the last 20 years. Yes you can't always protect your players from injury, but you can mitigate against it (not having double training sessions after international flights LVG!) and in order to compete for the whole season you have to keep your team fit as best you can.
Also Lalalalalaalana - we now have a squad that we can rotate, depending on opoosition etc. So I doubt Sterling will start every game like he did last season.
If we play Sterling sparingly this season we may just be keeping him healthy for RM/Barca to buy him next Summer. I have always believed that if a player is fit he is available for selection. It is up to the manager how many games a player has. For arguments sake when we play our first CL game as it is at home and against the weakest team in the group we may rest a few of the important players or may play our best team and then substitute our more important players once we have a few goals It is BR's decision based on advice from the backroom staff and talking to the player. Sterling strikes me as a player who may need protecting from himself and will always want to play even if carrying a bit of an injury, as opposed to RVP who has to be persuaded to play and if he does not feel like it will say he has an injury.
Wear him out on the pitch so he's too knackered to go shagging anything with a pulse. He'll thank us for it one day. Seriously, I'd leave it to the club's fitness experts to decide whether or not he's at risk- that's what they're paid for. What he's paid for is to give his all on the pitch whenever he's asked to. As with some others on here, I'd be seriously miffed if we wrapped him in cotton wool only to to deliver him as a mature, quality player to Real/Barca/anyothermega-richfucker in a couple of years time. Of course, the best way to keep him safe is keep him well away from Woy's Neanderthal training methods.
If Barca or Real come calling I cannot see him staying. They'll offer £60m and triple his wages. But the problem is that even with this huge fee, we would find it difficult to improve the team.
I said Barcelona because they have a transfer ban so can't. If he goes to Real he would be the biggest moron on the planet as he has no chance of playing.
