Verigini is a Centre back by trade but he makes a cracking right back. BillyJones is a rightback that can do a job at left back which is how we lined up against Brum. Van Aanholt is our main/only natural left footed left back which makes him first choice in a Prem game. My question is, who do we choose rb??
Yeh Tees, sorry pal, I'm sure I'd seen Vergini playing at right back the other week, hence my confusion. That and all those guinnesses. My vote - Jones every time. The right player for the right position. Think its time I went to bed.
Ha, no worries mate I somtimes think Phillips still plays for us after a good sesh. Hope you had a good one mate .
Awesome mate, went back to an old haunt and was genuinely touched by the welcome. You shouldn't forget old mates! Anyhoo f**ed now so tomorra us another day and 3 points. Love this forum..
vergini, cos since he got settled, he's been as good a right back as we've had. only heard good things about jones, but ain't seen him play yet...
Jones wasn't great against Brum, I personally didn't think he looked that comfortable at LB. Would like to see how he does at RB
I'd go for Vergini as well. He was excellent against Man Utd barring a couple of instances so I can't see why you would replace him with Jones at this moment in time. Last season when he was moved from CB to RB his performances improved game after game and his confidence grew along with his performance level. Just a thought, but it would be interesting to see how far he has improved overall by switching him back to CB at some stage cos you never know he could be the answer to one CB position. Time will tell.
I go Jones personally. I feel Vergini drifts central, did it a lot against man u, As a result Buckley had to sit too deep which was a shame because he was looking dangerous. With Buckley having to come deep to cover, instead of having a front three against a back three, it was two on three with Fletch having to press two defenders, which as we know he choose to press neither. QPR also play with a back three, I'd like us to be able to keep it three on three as I think we'll cause them problems. We can't do that if our inside right has to track back for Vergini when he drifts infield. V Man U please log in to view this image
Vergini for the moment Jones playes LB the other night but has no ability in his left foot, that much was painfully obvious He did get forward and i think along side Buckley we could have a pacey right side, however it would be harsh to drop vergini imo
I'd like to try Billy at RB. Whilst Vergini has been very good there, he's an oval being squeezed into a round hole and I'd rather we trained him up to be one of our next star centre backs. I'd also like to see Buckley and AJ on the flanks to get at them. They should be able to switch with ease I suspect we'll start with Larsson and Rodders in the middle, but I'd like to start with Giacc instead of Rodders. We can sub later in the game, Gomez on in place of Seb. Larson and Rodders is a bit too workmanlike, Giacc and Gomez give it more of a creative spark but it needs to be balanced.
I'd like to see Verigini play cb, thought we lacked someone who can play the ball out at the back against Man Utd, especially as they didn't press us, o'shea and brown had loads of possession and we couldn't take advantage of it.
