Not good if a result is needed in the final game. So the mindset should be a win at WHL against Bestikas, and get qualifying done and dusted before that final game.
If Besitkas cannot top the group by winning their final game, then other than for pride or getting the ranking points, they might not be looking to field their stongest side anyway.
Once the transfer window is done, and inquest pending on Vorm, we are probably looking at Vlad / Dier / Veljkovic taking up CB duties for most of those games. Possibly Fryers too.
Anyone know anything about our opponents' current teams, bar Besiktas? The Greeks actually had a pretty tough run to make the group, dispatching Mainz along the way, but I have no idea about any of their players. Partizan are equally unknown to me.
Partizan by their ranking pts do not appear to have been that active in UEFA tournaments over the past 8 yrs. And if they have been in group stages, they have been slaughtered. Similarly so for Asteras.
I really like that list. It gives our second 11 a good shot at getting us through, to my perhaps twisted and inexplicable thinking. Give them a good test by making them go to Belgrade, then play Besiktas at home. A win and a draw would be good enough. But we should be able to play them in any case in both games against Asteras. If worst comes to worst, play the best 11 at home against Partizan. I can't see it being worth sending them to Besiktas whether we need the result or not. So the first 11 shouldn't have to travel, whatever happens.
A few Sutton fans went to Belgrade last season and went to a Partizan match, they were not impressed by them
Last nights qualification for the next stages of the Europa, obviously means 6 of our lealgue games will now switch to Sundays. A new PL rule for the 14/15 season, states that no sunday PL game shall kick off at a time different to the TV games. So our games will kick off at either 1:30 or 4:00.
"A new PL rule for the 14/15 season, states that no sunday PL game shall kick off at a time different to the TV games." Interesting. Have the PL stated the rationale for this ??
"Or should that read £$€Â¥" It still doesn't make sense. The PL get their cut regardless of who in the world is showing a game. Advertisers who are not on display at all concurrent games I can understand getting iffy (less eyes to see if we're not all watching the game they have ads for) .
On the UEFA side, Goonus CL could soon be put on the endangered species list. BBC gossip mentioned that the Fail had an article claiming that UEFA are considering changing the pts/ranking system so that CL "pot 1" effectively becomes the defending champions + the winners of 7 designated "strongest" leagues.
We'll do what we usually do, of course: beat every team in sight until the quarters when we meet our first half-decent opposition, which knowing our luck will be 'Pool (after they've been dumped out of the CL in humiliating fashion). T:hen, we'll take a humiliating humping.
