I don't like Mark Lawrenson. He always predicts us to lose. He's now predicted us to lose all 3 of our premier league matches. This quote typifies how little he thinks (or in reality knows) about us: Aston Villa v Hull (13:30 BST) I know Villa didn't have a shot on goal in the 0-0 draw against Newcastle last week and they lost to Leyton Orient in the League Cup this week, but they should be a little too good for Hull. So even though they didn't get a shot against Newcastle, then got beat by Orient they are still better than City.
Hmm, I think we'll lose as well as it goes. European hangover will hit us hard. I'll be having a bet.
With all the talk of resting players for Villa we probably will lose now, but on paper I can see a draw.
I don't really give much of a thought about what he has to say, but I do find amusing how he forgets what he's said before. I seem to remember only a few weeks ago he tipped us to stay up fairly comfortably, saying we had bought well. Yet now he's predicted three consecutive defeats against sides which are likely to be in and around us at the bottom of the league. If, according to him, we can't get points off Villa, Stoke or QPR - where does he think our points will come from? Though, as has been said above - he just guesses, and that column is more about him getting more notoriety among football fans. He seems to revel in the fact that most people think he's a c**t.
A couple of seasons ago he had QPR above us until the last few games of the season. That was when we finished with 72 points and QPR finished bottom. The prediction thing is always going to draw stick but it's his biased punditry I could never stand. He wrote an article in the summer about how Liverpool won't "do a Spurs" and he might as well have included that we wear different colour shirts in his reasons as they were so tenuous. You'd think a Liverpool fan who's paid to write about football might remember the big spend up they had a few years ago after Torres left. It took 2 seasons for those players to prove their worth, yet he is convinced these new signings will hit the ground running. Hopefully we can beat them on Sunday and leave him eating his words. Anyway, Hull were widely tipped to go down last season and it looks like you're being underrated again. We usually get written off too and having had us talked up for once last season, I've got to say I prefer being unfancied.
Anyone think that Brady might be starting up front at some point as was rumoured a couple of seasons ago?
I wouldn't worry about it. He predicted us to lose most times last season too before writing an apology of sorts in his final predictions when his predictions would have had us finishing 19th.
Strangely, he usually speaks well of us but he also usually predicts we’ll lose. Last season was the same. From pre—season he’d said we’d stay up but again predicted we’d lose more often than not. I’m sure I saw a table where his results were transformed into a final PL table and despite him being correctly confident we’d stay up, his predictions would have had us relegated.
You knobheads are forgetting we rested people last night so of course we're going to beat Villa. Just like we guaranteed a win against Stoke by throwing the first leg.
He's probably like most pundits and never actually watches us, so just assumes 'oh they haven't been in the premier league long, whereas Villa have.' 'Villa will win.' Lazy punditry.
