Matth wouldnt call him anything, on account of he would **** himself to death, Hutchence style. Would be found in his bedroom with a dressing gown belt round his neck, his tackle in hand, with a photoshopped picture of Cristiano in the buff.
He is great at finding and nurturing young talent (RVP for £2m ffs!! ). But in terms of sending out his team with instructions on how to win a game?.........I can imagine him just saying "You errr....are better and errrr....you will contwole da game and err......". Against any decent side, more often than not they get trounced, against teams they are much better than....no problem, but when two teams are evenly matched, tactics make all the difference and he is terrible at it. Rarely ever even makes subs before 75 minutes, and cant coach a defence for ****.
Has anyone got some good examples of youth who have progressed at Utd? I know the Beckham, Giggs, Scholes, Neville, Neville, Butt era but was that just a fluke generation? Not trying to WUM here. We've taken a fair few of the youngsters from you (Chester, Brady, Dudgeon, Evans, Stewart) recently.
And? We only won one league title before Wenger joined Arsenal...... Does it hurt that Roberto Di Matteo has won the Champions League and Wenger hasn't?
Brown, O'Shea, Evans, Fletcher and Welbeck. Not as many as in the 1990s, but I think better than most of our fellow title challengers have managed. Maybe they haven't reached the heights of the previous generation, but Brown and Fletcher were great before they got injured / ill, and the others have all made full internationals, and all won big trophies with us. Arguably all of them reached the same level as Phil Neville and Butt. And Rooney and Ronaldo were both 18 when they joined us.
So a man who has less tactical nous then your testicle has won only one less title that your club in its existence, ****e club, no history, everyone knows chelsea started in 2004.
I'd discount Rooney and Ronaldo as they came for big money. A decent list otherwise. Just goes to show how strong the previous generation were.
No history? The clubs over a hundred years old you clown. How many trophies do you think Chelsea will win before Arsenal win the league again? Because they aint winning **** with Wenger in charge, not any more. Football has changed and he hasn't changed with it, hence one FA Cup in the last 10 years.
This. I think most clubs would be happy to have developed those players, with others like Rossi, Frazier Campbell, Richardson, Gibson and Cleverley who didn't make the grade but were sold for a lot of money. Particularly as I think players like O'Shea and Welbeck would have come on a lot more had they not been competing with world class players like Heinze, Evra and RVP for game time. But then everyone looks at the 'fledglings' and judges them according to that. I reckon in ten years time people will be saying the same about Barca, and criticising players like Bojan and Thiago for failing to match Xavi and Messi.
I am not sure about fluke. But it was quite unique and fortunate for United as they got so many brillant youngsters who remained in the first team for so long. So Fergie benefitted but you do need some luck as well as genius to win trophies. If we are going to talk about good fortune and bad fortune. Here are some examples: 1. Cantona coming to United. When Leeds could have refused to sell him. And he was the catalyst of the whole period of dominance. 2. the class of 1992 3. Giggs was a player of exceptional longevity. Unique and I cannot see another player lasting as long. He saved United money and kept the team in the hunt for trophies for decades. 4. Fergie won the FA cup when he was on the point of being sacked. History would have been different for United. I am sure fans can point other fortunate things which made United win trophies. Howver there have been bad fortune too: 1. the GGs and the massive debts 2. failure to reinforce the team at the right time . Because of the GGs and Fergie. 3. DM chosen as replacement as Fergie's role is underestimated. Moyes=Ferguson: What the f**??? 4. The failure to recognise that players who performed well under SAF (Fergie players) would not necessarily perform for any one else. Moyes should have recognised that and should NOT have sacked the coaches. I think some of the above could have been avoided with some due diligence. Just my opinion.
Michael Keane and Tyler Brackett are progressing. so are Jesse Lingard and James Wilson. LVG encourages youth, so I can't see any reason why he won't adopt SAF's policy of if your good enough, your old enough
Some good points Christian, am going to add a couple more that are significant. 1. Wooward. Useless at his job, made a complete hash of last years signings, and hasn't excelled himself this year. Losing David Gill and replacing him with with Woodward is compatible with replacing Roy Keane with Cleverley 2. Rene Meulensteen. Moyes should have kept him. Players were used to him, and admired his tactics. 3. Mentioning Roy Keane, thats one player we never replaced. Maybe Vidal is the solution, but unless point 1 gets his finger out, we will miss out
